I will throw out my thoughts since it seems it's that time of year again.

1. We need to adress the backup QB position first and foremost. I would look into acquiring Zach Mettenberger from the Titans, possibly for a 4th round pick.

2. Re-sign Greg Hardy. He may not be the most likable guy, but we are in the drivers seat to sign him to a long term deal. I'm sure they can figure out a contract where the risk/reward is acceptable to both parties. Possibly a 3-4 year deal.

3. Part ways with Rolando McClain. It's very tough to get a read on this guy and would be too risky to re-sign him. Derrick Johnson, the Waco native and all-pro LB, might be intrigued with the possibility of finishing his career close to home with a SB-contending team. We can re-shuffle our LB corps to make room for him.

4. Re-sign Mackenzy Bernadeau and Morris Claiborne. Cut Brandon Carr. I think Ron Leary will go somewhere he can start.

2016 NFL Draft

Round 1 - Vernon Hargreaves III, CB. Top corner to pair up with Orlando Scandrick.

Round 2 - CJ Prosise, RB. This is where you want to draft a RB. Round 1 is too early. I like him better than Derek Henry.

Round 3 - Braxton Miller, WR. Great type of WR who can create mismatches and free up Dez Bryant.

Thoughts?

-I agree with Hardy. I believe the foundation to keep him here has already been set by Jerry who stuck by him week by week when everyone else bashed him. He took his lumps from the public and it should die down some next season. He also seems to be behaving now. Have no problem if he is brought back because it will be at a discounted price.

- I would rather let mo walk and go after Janoris Jenkins( Rams free agent CB). Would allow us to get away from just man coverage and let us get to back to playing zone and making plays.

- No problem with Hargreaves if we are picking around 7th or 8th. Don't know much about Prosise or Miller to make a comment on them.

One question to the people who want to bring back Hardy for a 3-4 year deal: When Randy Gregory's contract is up in 3 years, do you think he'll want to resign if he spent his career in Dallas as a situational pass rusher?

I don't know exactly what % of snaps Gregory has played this year. I think we're not going to re-sign Mincey after next year, and I wouldn't be opposed to cutting him this offseason to give Gregory more reps. I'm sure we can find ways to get Gregory more playing time next year

I like your solution to the QB problem much better than drafting one high. I would target Manziel though if Cle go's another route.

I agree on Hardy. Resign him and much like Rothlisberger and others his sins will eventually be forgotten. Shld be able to get him at a discounted price.

I would try to resign Mcclain but only at a favorable price.

I agree with Randy about Janoris Jenkins. Leon Hall as a backup option if someone overpays for Jenkins.

Would try to keep Leary over Bernie but if Leary wanted to go I would let him. I would tell him though he has a decent shot at starting.

Goodbye to Mo, Carr, Wilcox and Free.

I would try Chaz Green at RT and if he can't cut it I would move Collins to RT and Leary back at G.

DRAFT

I would be looking to trade down a couple of spots from 5 to 7 or 8. Hopefully someone wants to move up for one of those OT's or maybe for the one WR that seems to be rated much higher than the rest or maybe even for Goff. This would be to pick up an extra pick to use to trade for Manziel.

1st Jalen Ramsey or Hargreaves III CB
2nd Jayron Kearse or Vonn Bell SS
extra pick for trade back for Manziel QB
3rd Noah Spence or Matakevick OLB
4th Braxton Miller or Sterling Shepard WR
4th Comp Paul Perkins or Prosise RB

in the 5th I would look for a big Samoan DT that does nuttin but clog running lanes.
the rest of the picks the usual projects.

If this could be the secondary next year I would be stoked.

CB Scandrick
CB Janoris Jenkins
CB Jalen Ramsey
FS Byron Jones
SS Jayron Kearse.

fair question to debate
I doubt Hardy would except a 3 or 4 year deal but if the signing bonus could
be structured to accommodate with Gregory's signing time there might be
something to work with.I doubt it as the cap money would be tough.

This is where Romo's injuries are so damaging to our quest for the ring.
That window is narrow but there is time.

I like your draft but the mere mention of Manziel as a consideration forced me to fumigate the room.

I like Hardy as a player but I think Gregory can be better. We typically go all in on guys in their 2nd seasons. We did with Lawrence (granted, we didn't have much else). I'd roll with Gregory and use the money we save on Hardy to get a serious DT to play alongside Crawford.

I think Maniel is the perfect backup QB for our situation. He has that same escapability that Romo does. That helps receivers get down the field and leads to big plays.
He plays for the consistently worst team in the league but is already playing pretty well. By the time Romo is done we would know if Manziel is ready to be the man.
In the mean time, when Romo go's down with Injury, he could do enough to win these close games we have been losing every week.

What if we just let our 4 best DL on the field at all times. WDE - Gregory, 1T - Hardy, 3T - Crawford, SDE - Lawrence. Would we be neutralizing Hardy too much by playing him mostly inside?

I would try to avoid Proise and Miller in those rounds. They both have very high ceilings. They also both have a lot of work that needs to be done to ever get close to that ceiling. Both have very high bust potential and I wouldn't take either until a rd later. With those picks I would prefer safer players.

There may be a day when he grows up I dont know. The little I read about him
his a self entitled little ego trip. He has not shown yet he knows what it takes
to become the man. He may I jsut haven't seen it.

He's 2 years ahead of anyone we would draft. Better too. Manziel has done nothing on the field to indicate he is not a player. It is all childish behavior and ego as you said. The Cowboys can deal with that as they have proven again and again.

I would be ok with Jalen Ramsey in the top 5 as well. He may even be a safer pick than VH3. I really think we are going to address our secondary with that first round pick. We already have a lot of resources on the DL and OL, so I don't think we draft those areas in the top 5.
