Let me first start by saying that this is my first go at it this year and I must admit that I find this to be a very optimistic opinion of what I think our team should do. Some of it is absurd, but I will try to give reason.
Free Agency:
Resign -
Rolando McClain MLB - Just like him in the game. Give him a 3yr/team friendly contract and let him continue to gel wiith Sean Lee.
Jack Crawford DE - I think he has shown us enough to keep him. I admittedly like David Irving much better, but Crawford is a good depth "Rushmen." btw - I'd give Irving a contract extension and groom him as a fixture in the Dline.
Tyler Clutts FB- Why not.
I'd also consider Robert Turbin, Casey Walker and Charles Brown as potential, but theyre just kinda JAGS IMO.
(note: Mo's gonna get an overblown contract somewhere else (probably TB) and Greg Hardy the player I love; Greg Hardy the teammate and person, I'm not interested in. He could definetely help any team garner a SB,...,just, no thank you!)
Sign-
Ryan Schraeder OT (formerly Atlanta) - Okay, we think Romo's good for another 3 years; I cannot argue, but if we want him for that long, we might as well give him all the protection we absolutely can. Schraeder is a clear upgrade from oft-injured Free and 3rd and 7th round second year players.
Trumaine Johnson CB (formerly St. Louis) good CB...Will probably need with Carr and Claiborne gone. Not the first time I've seen this in a mock.
Kendall Reyes DT (formerly SD) - Little bit of a bust in SD, but was a pet cat of mine and I think could play a sneaky, undersized 1T in obvious pass situations.
Zach Brown LB (formerly TEN) - Another guy that was talked about for a year, then kind of flat lined. Not the best run defender, but pretty good in pass coverage.
Frank Alexander DE/DT (formerly CAR) - I think he was lost for the season earlier this year, but a pretty good depth player. Give me more "Rushmen"
Josh Leribeus OG/C (formerly WAS) - A good undersized, fiesty player perfect for a zone blocking scheme. sound like someone? would be a great replacement for Bernadeau.
Trades- note: here's where it gets a little unrealistic, but let's give it a go
Trade Terrence Williams and Devin Street to the Browns for Josh Gordon.....let this be our risk/reward for the year. Browns get rid of a headache and gets depth with a position they definetely are in need of. With this trade, they can pick up a speedy guy in the 3rd/4th, and have that position become a strength. With us, we get a risk, but an uber talented WR who happens to be an open fan of the Cowboys. If he works out, we get to extend a great talent who can make our WR 1/2 the most dangerous in the league and if he doesnt work out, we get to have WR2 our biggest priority in 2017. I believe all three of these guys are still in their rookie contract.
Trade 3rd(98), 6th(189) and J.J. Wilcox to MIN for the rights to Adrian Peterson. Feels like last offseason all over again, huh? Hear me out. I never believed we would get him last year; it was too convuluted of a situation last year. But now we have an extremely talented but aging RB, who's still a fan of DAL, just made a costly fumble in a MIN playoff game and whose coach is a year removed from proving his point. I know they just restructured; I don't think that really means anything. MIN has two functional RBs and now two extra picks in a deep RB class, as well as a safety who is not going to have to play Free with Harrison Smith back there. He will be much better for them, sadly. We get to see what AD looks like behind our line.
Trade 2017(5th) for to SEA for David King (1T). A Space eater with some athleticism. He's been on my trade radar since he was drafted about 3 years ago. An old pet cat of mine.
Surprise Cut:
Barry Church- Get rid of J.J. Wilcox and now this...What!!! I say we start stocking up on Safeties that can double up as Corners and not LBs that double up as Safeties. I know it's gonna hurt to see him go, but all my feels were used up after losing Ware.
Doug Free- Ive actually been a Doug Free supporter throughout the years, but age, injury, the signing Schraeder and the drafting of 2 OTs in the 2015 draft spells his release. I'd keep him on as a coach whenever he wanted to. fun fact... looking up Free's contract on Wiki, came across that Free went to High School in Manitowac, Wisconsin; the same location for the documentary Making a Murderer. The more you know!
Draft:
Trade: Dal trades 1(4) to NO for 1(12), 2(47) and 5(140); NO gets Goff/Lynch, whatever.
1(12) - Carson Wentz, QB North Dakota - For those that say that backup/potential future QB is not the top priority, No (bonk on the nose with a rolled up newspaper!) did you watch this last season??? For those that say RG3 or Manziel are proper backups, futures; 2nd bonk on the nose. RG3 "don't play second fiddle to nobody" and Manziel is not the guy I'd trust driving home any particular night and certainly not the man to take over the reigns of the most important position in team sports. Neither one is an upgrade to Weedon/ Cassel IMO. I've been a Lynch guy for weeks and I've been a Goff guy for a few, too; but Wentz is special to watch. If he checks all the boxes for potential suitor, why not invest the 1st pick for him? Id take him at 4; I'd take him at 1 if he impresses. I put him at 12 for my own selfish agenda. Still dont think we need to invest in the future? Im sure you could get good highlights from the last season online.
2(34) - William Jackson III, CB Houston - Great size, a very willing tackler (hear that Mo Claiborne?), fluid hips, and a bit of a ball hawk. Id draft him as a CB, but I'd use him as our starting safety alongside Byron Jones. That would make our starting DB's Scandrick, Trumaine Johnson, Byron Jones and William Jackson. A far cry from two undersized LB's posing as Safties and two exclusive corners.
2(47)(NO) - Kenneth Dixon, RB LA Tech - Adrian Peterson, Darren Mcfadden, Kenneth Dixon; RB depth is good. Seriously, this dude is good!! he can be the potential future with Carson Wentz once AD and Romo wave goodbye.
4(101) - Bralon Addison, WR/RB/KR/PR Oregon - Here's that sick speed weve been looking for. I've seen him on alot of mocks for us. Use him as a Tavon Austin or a proper Lance Dunbar replacement. Quite a bit more of a reciever and less of an RB, but can be used in Tavon Austin type plays.
4(135) - comp - Matt Judon, DE GVSU - My pet cat for this draft. Why I could give up Hardy so easily. I think hes going to become a 2nd round pick (ranked really low right now) but I'll put him here for now. I think hes a new name on here, so heres a little video on him.
5(140)(NO) - Willie Henry, 1DT Michigan - A big ol' space eater!! With him, Reyes and King, our big boys at the 1 are good to go. Here's a vid of the Michigan and Northwestern game. I believe he is number 69 in the game.
6(212)- comp- Geronimo Allison, WR Illinois - Tall guy (6'3") with exceptional route running, cuts, and catch radius. I think hes going to jump in the draft, but right now he has a really low ranking. heres a vid.
6(213)- comp- Doug Middleton, FS App State - Another guy that can double up as a Corner in a pinch, but better as a backup Safety for now.
