Malcolm Smith (lesser version) and Shaq Thompson are almost the same player. Both need to play WLB. Love them both though.

Our starting secondary staying the same terrifies me (although you improved the depth some).

When Marinelli moved the man def the secondary came up with turnovers and caused alot of sacks with the coverage. Add a better DL and i think things get alot better

Yes, Holliman does not like to tackle. He is also rumored to have character/work-ethic issues.

I think thats why you have him backup Hollimon this yr and play them Sub packages that they had Heath play in cause the guy is a natural playmaker. He knows how to find the ball. Think he could be starting in 2016 and slide JJ over to SS and release Church along with his 3.5mil caphit. with Dallas saving 3mil on the cap. For this mock i decided to just fill the defense with a whole lot of depth. Add a few new starters

Two questions:

1). Odds of us going 4 rounds without drafting a pass rusher with this horrendous pass rush?

2) Odds of us drafting a lazy FS who is afraid to tackle?

Graham played SDE in Philly when they ran that wide four man front before going 3-4

Yeah, I know... and you're probably correct, but I kind of pictured him at WDE.

Do you think Mincey is a better pass rusher than Graham? Do you see Mincey as the superior athlete to Graham? Do you see Graham as a superior run stopper in comparison to Mincey?

Please don't that that as me being a smart ***, because I'm not (even though I usually tend to be, lol). I'm just curious to see if you view Graham and Mincey the same way I do.

Thanks LM.

If Graham was added to the current roster, he seems to be the mostly likely to be a Weak-Side DE in Marinelli's scheme.

I think Mincey and Lawrence can play either side. MIncey did look much different by the end of the season. He was 290 at the beginning of camp and 267 at the end of the season. His quickness was obviously much better.

No, i think Graham is a better passrusher. He is alot quicker off the snap. Graham is a little shorter then i would like, but he is not small. Guy has big arms and tree trunks for legs. I think Mincey and Graham are equal in the rungame.

Thanks man. I appreciate the answers.

Then you see him very similar to how I do. Speaking for myself, in the Dallas defense, I might look at Graham as a WDE and Mincey as a SDE. Frankly, I think Mincey might be better on the strongside than he is on the weakside. He is strong enough to play there but his quickness and speed would be better at SDE.

Marinelli might think Graham is a SDE though, so it is all speculation on my part.

Thanks again LM.

What do you think of Mincey moving to SDE? All season long I have kind of figured that if Dallas had a better WDE candidate to rotate with Lawrence, that Mincey would have been moved to the strongside because he seems more like a guy that you'd want there. IOW, I kind of figured they had him at WDE because they didn't have two guys better than him at that position.

I also could see Mincey at WDE on run downs and at SDE in the nickle.

I really dont see Mincey repeating what he did this yr. Just dont see it. Especially if people want him to play on the strong side. He should be a good backup but expecting anything more then that should be out of the question. The job is to improve the passrush not stay in the same place.

He's just a ST guy these days

Well he did get more offensive targets than Street this past year (but I know we're talking about next year).

I know teams want their backups ideally to have useful roles on special teams; does the opposite hold true too? If a return specialist is going to be on the team, will teams juggling their rosters usually expect he'll also serve a role on the offensive or defensive depth charts?
(I'm asking because I don't know.)

No, I agree. I would like Mincey to be a reserve/rotational end. I just think he might be best doing that on the strongside.

Odds are that you're correct and they keep him where he is... I just think I'd probably try him on the other side.

Yes, to all of that. Mincey could be the starter at SDE if Lawrence or somebody else is the WDE. Mincey is obviously an upgrade over Selvie who was the starting SDE in 2014. Having Mincey play WDE on run downs and SDE on passing downs is highly possible; although, Lawrence is a good run defender also. Lawrence can take snaps at SDE also if needed.

I would be looking for an WDE in free agency and/or the draft but I can live with just upgrading Selvie with a free agent. I expect a rotation where 3 players get the bulk of the snaps for both sides with Mincey and Lawrence being 2 of the 3. They need to get one of these in FA:
Hardy (The best FA DE if he is acquitted)
McPhee (I like this player. He plays as a 3-4 OLB at 280 pounds)
Graham (Short but very quick)
Sheard
Hughes
JPP

Really like Hardy and McPhee at SDE. I like Graham Sheard and Hughes too, just not quite as much. They'll be cheaper though. JPP will be too expensive IMO.

I think most of our improved pass rush will come from an improved Lawrence, Crawford and Spencer. The further Spencer got away from his injury the better he got. Combine that with 1T who can rush QB and get pressure up the middle (Paea), and low risk, high reward signing of a 280 SDE who was the 20th pick in the draft (Adrian Clayborn) and our pass rush looks excellent.

Clayborn Crawford Paea Lawrence

Spencer Draft Pick McClain Mincey
