Some want Mo gone but unless we plan on using a 1st on a CB (which is unpopular on this board) then we will be weakening our only strength on defense. Won't give him a long contract but a 2 year deal would be a good idea. As for Wilcox i would give him a 1 year prove deal and let him show that his solid play this year wasn't a fluke. If he proves his worth then extend him. David Irving is restricted so its a no brainer to keep him. Kellen Moore won with a worse team then we saw this year. Keep him around and start drafting a QB every other year. Brought back on a 2 year deal if he even wants to play anymore.

Release: Brandon Carr, Kyle Wilber, Lucky Whitehead

Nothing really surprising. Carrs contract is setup for him to be released next year or he may retire. Either way he most likely not on the team next year unless hes willing to come back for cheap. Wilber already lost his spot to Wilson. Whitehead flashed some ability to be a dangerous return man but he makes too many dumb decisions on kick returns.

Potential Comp picks:
OG Ronald Leary
WR Terrance Williams
DT Terrell McClain
SS Barry Church

Other offseason moves:
- Doug Free is cut to save cap. Brought back on a cheaper contract if he doesn't retire.
- Tony Romo traded to Denver for their 2017 3rd round pick and a conditional 2018 3rd round pick.

Free Agency:
-DE Jabaal Sheard-
Had a very solid season in 2015 playing with his hand in the dirt as a 4-3 DE. Finishing with 37 tackles, 8 sacks, and 4 forced fumbles. Hes had an ok season this year with 5 sacks and no forced fumbles. maybe we can sign him for around the same contract he signed with the Pats. 2 years 11 million 4 mil signing bonus was his last contract.

- OG/C Jonathan Cooper- I take his very late signing with the team as his tryout. Bring him back and let him compete with Jumbo Joe for backup spot at training camp. I would give him a 2 year deal thats easy to get out of if needed.

1st.) WR John Ross, Washington- Their will potentially be a DE sitting their at our pick but a playmaker like Ross would be too hard to pass on. It does address a need and i also having a harder time trying to convince myself that we would pass on the 3rd ranked WR over potentially the 6th, 7th, or even 8th ranked DE in the 1st. He also gives us a option for KR/PR.

2nd.) DE Joe Mathis, Washington- I'm taking a shot in the dark here. Mathis grade is all over the place. But if you watch his tape from this year you will see the talent is their before he got injured. His explosion off the line, his bend, his speed, his very high motor. His lack of production is what has him such a hard player to grade. With only 4 sacks combined in the 2 season prior to this years. But in 6 games he had 5 sacks, 4 QB hits, and 31 pressures. He also has gone from 240 pounds to 260 and their is even video of him benching 225 40 times in a row. If he has added that kind of strength then he would be worth the gamble if he is still on the board.

DEN 3rd.) RB Alvin Kamara, Tennessee- I already know some are going disagree and say he won't make it to the 3rd but their is chance. especially if he is smaller then his listed size which he most likely is. They say hes 6'0" 215. Looks closer to 5'10" 200 lbs at the most. couple this with a very deep RB class. Hes not a 3 down back but as a change of pace back he can take our rush offense to another level paired with zeke. He is a very shifty runner with good vision, puts the effort in pass protection, is a great receiving option, and runs routes like a slot receiver. Would also give him Punt return duties over Beasley. His Pro Comp is Jamaal Charles and this is about where Charles was drafted.

3rd.) DT Montravius Adams, Auburn- Again someone will say he won't make it to this pick but they was saying the same thing about Carl Davis a couple years ago. Adams main cons are his questionable motor and his lack of strength. But his quick first step, speed, and size make it hard to pass on him if he makes it this far. Some may say no because of his motor but if anyone can get someones motor running hot its Hot Rod.

4th.) CB Corn Elder, Miami- Not the biggest corner but plays bigger then he is due to his long arms, deep speed, & athleticism. I think he would be a perfect slot corner for our defense. He is a very willing run defender and was used as a blitzer from time to time like how we use scandrick. Doubt he wins a staring role this year but he could make Scandrick expendable in 2018.

6th.) OLB Tyus Bowser, Houston- Bowser is a mid round talent who may go late due to an off field issue of him breaking his hand punching a teammate. Some may not want a guy who has physically attacked a teammate but if he checks out then he is hard to pass on. He has solid pass rushing ability. Also is solid in coverage covering slot corners at times at Houston. Hes too small to play DE at 6'2 240lbs but he can be a better Wilber at SLB. Would use him the same way too. LB on running downs. Can either use to blitz standing up or he can play with his hand in the dirt like he did at Houston. Would also be our main backup for MLB.

7th.) CB Jeremy Cutrer, Middle Tennessee- Small school corner with good size and good speed. We need depth at corner. Especially someone who can play on the outside if Mo goes down. Hoping he can be another late round gem and be a future starter at corner on the outside.

7th.) OT Storm Norton, Toledo- Big OT with great length. Was a big part of Toledos running success. He does have starting potential but he is more likely to become Chaz green replacement at Swing tackle. Could help band-aid RT for the season as well.

Priority UDFA:
WR Victor Bolden Jr, Oregon State- most explosive return specialist in college football
FB Freddie Stevenson, FSU- one of if not the best blocking FB in college. Also an underrated offensive weapon. has decent vision, speed, and hard to tackle. Also a legit receiving threat out the backfield.
QB Sefo, Liufau, Colorado- Practice squad QB. Flashed accuracy and ability to make completions in tight windows.
TE Wyatt Houston, Utah State- Blocking TE with solid hands and decent route running ability.

Top Needs 2018
OT- Finding a RT will be at the top of our list. Just looking ahead to next year OT can be pretty deep and much better then this years sad class. Would highly consider trading up in next years draft to make sure we get one in the 1st.
TE- This year is the 1st time Witten has ever talked about retirement. I think he stays another 2 years but his replacement will be needed soon. Not sure how next years class will be but if their is a solid 2nd round TE like another Hunter Henry then i would consider moving up again. Especially if we end up with a 2nd 3rd round pick from the Romo trade
QB- Need a back up for Dak. Kellen Moore is just a stop gap.

Personally not a fan of small WR's in the 1st round...Ross is dynamic, but in our offense I doubt he catches more than 60 balls as long as Dez and The Bease are still here. Would add a different element to the offense, but I think we can get a speedy deep threat later on.

Only other small gripe is I think you'd be putting to much faith in Mo with this roster. If/when he goes down again it would only be Scandrick, Brown, and Corn? I'd either need to go CB a round or 2 earlier, or bring in another cheap vet that can step in if need be

I was trying to mock a CB with the 3rd pick but by that time it was other slot corners pretty much left. That or larger CB's left was much more Raw and not ready to go if needed early in the season. At least Elder has the length to cover a larger target if needed to.

And the Ross pick I was trying to think like a front office. Take the higher rated player and still fill a need. Although no need if we keep Williams which I hope we don't do.

This is a very good overall approach to the offseason and draft and I think this would improve the team (which is the ultimate goal of the offseason) so I'm not going to nitpick. I like the Sheard signing in particular (I wanted him here after 2014 and still want him here), and he seems like a slightly better version of what we've done the past few years. Admittedly, I don't know much about Mathis but if you don't think there's much drop off from him in round 2 vs. a Harris type in round one, I can get on board. Also, I'd like to see a CB in the round 3 slot and perhaps target Curtis Samuel in round 2 (if available) as he could possibly fill both voids re: WR and COP RB (basically, replacing Williams, Whitehead, and Dunbar). This would leave round 1 and 3 for us to target a pass rusher and CB in either order, assuming either position lines up with our board - I do agree to take the best player available (within reason/range) and that Ross could really transform the offense, so no sour grapes here if that's how it went down.

I wanted Sheard too. I was upset at how cheap he signed for the amount of talent he flashed at the time. Yea I wanted to put a CB in the 3rd but didn't see anyone worth it that could start on the outside if needed. Their I'd Awuzie out of Colorado but he may be a better FS then Corner in the NFL. After Senior Bowl and Combine their should be more options for the 3rd round for corners. Possibly Howard out of Houston.

And Mathis is an Unknown. I have seen multiple people say he will rise to the first after Combine and work outs but his lack of production in college may prevent that. We may be talking Mathis as our 1st round pick come late April.

Nice - I'm going to start brushing up on him myself, thanks for the insight! Re: Awuzie, he's one that I've had my eye on as a possible mid-round option.

Yea I like Awuzie. He's another great fit at the slot. Has the size to play outside if needed. Was gonna put him but then started to read on Adams and how he could slip. He's too talented to pass on in the late 3rd if he slips due to Questionable motor.

Bring back Mo, Wilcox, Irving, Cooper, Moore. Maybe Butler is he's really cheap as the 5th WR.

The rest go.

FA signings:

- Sheard or Addison at DE
- Jefferson at S
- Patterson at WR/KR

Draft:

1st - McKinley, DE, UCLA
2nd - Wilson, CB, UF
3rd - Dural, WR, LSU
4th - Godchaux, DT, LSU
6th - Harlow, OT, Oregon State
7th - Thomas, S, Oklahoma

I most definitely take this off-season. Love Kamara but really doubt he'll be there in 3 but if so I'd stoked. I asked Bruglar about some mid round RDE's to look up and he mentioned Mathis. Also keeping my eye on Derek Rivers at the senior bowl. He should really test well. II'd really like us to do some work on Al Quadin Muhammad. Kicked off Florida team but very intriguing.

I was gonna go a route like this but their has been talk that McKinley's injury will have little to no impact on his draft stock. especially since he may not even need surgery. I don't think Wilson last to our 2nd pick. Their is talk that he may go before his teammate Tabor.

Kamara is a hard to judge where he will go. In a draft fill of big bruising 3 down backs, a change of pace back may slip some. I could easily see him taken at the top of the 3rd if he does slip but we would be drafting him about where Jamaal Charles went and hes even smaller then Charles. Yea Mathis is a day 3 prospect at the moment. He would need to kill it at the combine/ pro day and private work outs.

I would too. its possible as well. This years 3rd is for Romo. Next years 3rd would be if Romo takes them to the playoff or Broncos reach a certain amount of wins with Romo at QB for the majority of the games.

I think Samuel and Kamara are too similar. I would take Kamara over Samuel tho. We live and die by the run game and Kamara is more RB who can play receiver while Samuel is more of a receiver who can play RB. I originally had Mathis in the 3rd but moved him up to 2nd. Hes gonna rise up boards late.

I meant Kamara or Samuel to pair. I'm not suggesting drafting both. But I agree Kamara is the better running back between the two.

Any comp picks for Leary or McClain wouldn't happen until 2018 but good to have then.

Would resign Claiborne, Wilcox, Cooper, Sanchez (only because his locker room presence seems to be great), maybe Butler or Williams if cheap not both. Irving is a ERFA and will be tendered and isn't going anywhere.

Would sign Jabaal Sheard or Mario Addison or Dion Jordan at DE, the one at the best team deal. Also would take a flyer on Josh Gordon WR although a RFA believe Cleveland is not going to tender him and supposedly he has worked with Calvin Hill since the season started but definitely a one year see if it works deal. Also might look at signing Cordarrelle Patterson WR instead as a replacement to Whitehead and he is a dynamic return guy.

I would hopefully trade Romo to Houston for pick 57 and a 5th round choice maybe because of a small bidding war in the trade.

So draft wise: (and of course we don't know how McClay will have them ranked) - remember Dallas ranks only about 150 guys based also on team scheme, athletic ability and smarts

28. Jabrill Peppers S Michigan - more of a box safety, good return skills, good instincts, great hitter, game changer guy like Woody, brings that football first mentality
57. T. J. Watt OLB Wisconsin - has the length, can bend the corner, dynamic type player who would move to DE spot either side and makes a difference
60. Chidobe Awuzie CB Colorado - very fluid in the hips, has shutdown corner capabilities, believes no WR can beat him (attitude)
92. Tanoh Kpassagnon DE Villanova - has a great upside although still learning, could move much higher in the draft but he will need some time to adapt to NFL, constant pressure guy
4th. Antonio Garcia OT Troy - great feet, excellent pass blocker, needs to learn to continue blocks on runs and quicker to second level, could be Free's replacement in 2018
5th Cooper Kupp WR Eastern Washington - some think goes higher but not a speed guy but a quick guy and hard worker, more in the Edelman type role
6th Corey Clement RB Wisconsin - believe we move on from Morris and Dunbar, Clement a nice replacement
7th Ezra Robinson CB Tennessee State - small school guy but a lot of upside although Dallas seems to stay with big schools lately
7th Joshua Dobbs QB Tennessee - developmental QB but a number of great intanibles, good 3rd string guy

No TE because believe Dallas looking at Witten, Swaim, Gathers and Hanna as the guys but not sure Hanna makes it back from microfacture knee surgery.

I wouldn't take a box safety in the 1st. He plays in a defense with a great defensive line but can't cause turnovers. If all we require is a box safety then Wilcox will do just fine. especially since his coverage ability is much improved from just a season ago.

Awuzie can be had in the 3rd. He more of a zone corner then a cover corner. Its why he may be a better FS then a CB. Few other CBs i would take over Awuzie in the 2nd. my favorite 2nd round corner is Jourdan Lewis out of Michigan. Would be great to have to cover Beckham Jr, Deasean Jackson, Randall Cobb.

Watt would have to a LB in our defense. Hes not explosive or strong enough to play 4-3 DE. He has a very high motor and never gives up on a play. Extremely high football IQ as well

Kpassagnon could possibly be a 1st round pick with his measurables and production.

Kupp would have to be taken with our 2nd if he even makes it to it. He destroyed some of the best secondaries in college football including Washingtons top tier secondary.

Garcia might not even make it out the 3rd. Teams will always reach on OT's. Especially in a class like this. He has the size, athleticism, and tools to develop. He will be taken earlier then expected.
