Reduce Wares contract to 8-9 mil saving Dallas 7-8 mil on the cap.
Restructure Romo and 12.5 mil comes off the cap
Restructure Witten and 4 mil comes off
Restructure Lee and 4.77 mil comes off
Restructure Scandrick and 3.77 comes off
Restructure Carr and 6.7 mil comes off

The cap will be above 130 mil. Ill say 133 giving Dallas roughly 15 mil in cap space before june1 with 5.5 mil more coming on with Austins release.

First order

Resign Tyron and Dez, with small first yr base salaries Dallas could easily get away with 6-8 mil cap hits between them. Ill go with the high end 8 mil from the cap so Dallas would have 7 mil in cap left to spend.

Ill then go further and predict Henry Melton in Dallas. He's from Dallas and his ex-coach is the new DC for the Cowboys. And he's actually said he would like to be reunited with Marinelli. First yr cap hit 3 mil.

I say melton because the Jones have said they didnt want to go into the draft with little at DT. Melton would provide Dallas some credibility heading into 2014. Would allow the Cowboys to drat BPA instead of reaching.

Dallas would then have 4 mil in cap space left and could head to the draft with a DT rotation of :
Melton
Crawford
Bass
Wynn

I could see the Cowboys releasing Hayden, Irvin, Kearse

Use them workouts before the draft to determine what you have in Crawford and Bass. April 21. And figure out how high you need to go with drafting DT

May 8-10 Draft

RD1
Zack Martin G/T Notre Dame

Start him at RG this yr and move him to the outside in 2014. Or have him compete with Free for the starting RT spot. Either way this is by far the best possible option for Dallas.

RD2
Davante Adams WR Fresno State

Linehan pick here. With releasing Austin Dallas doesnt have that 3rd WR and can be plugged incase of injuries or stretch the field. Adams can play the outside or the slot. One of the most polished WRs in college.

RD3
Kareem Martin DE UNC

Quick DE who can get after the QB. Would do himself good to develop and be that situational passrusher for a yr.

RD4
Caraun Reid DT Princeton

Athletic 1tech who has that quick twitch the Cowboys are looking for in their DTs. Good guy to add to that rotation the Cowboys want to run.

RD5
Chris Davis CB Auburn

Big body CB who makes plays on the ball. Strong DB who can play that FS sub package role that would allow Church to play closer to the LOS in certain packages. Return skills, as Harris has been prone to injuries.

RD6(Comp)
Ben Gardner DE Stanford

Prototypical strongside DE. Tree trucks for thighs and a motor that never stops. Plays the run very good but gets after the QB too.

RD7(CHI)
Eathyn Manumaleuna DT BYU

Another 1tech develop and add to depth.

RD7
Jeff Mathews QB Cornell

JG pick

RD7(KC)
Austin Wentworth G Fresno State

Depth from a school known to produce OL.

RD7(Comp)
Kevin Pierre Lewis LB Boston College

LBer with Speed. Needs to develop but could turn into a nice ST player and backup.

RD7(Comp)
IK Enemkpali DE

Developmental player Cowboys have shown interest in

RD7(Comp)
Phillip Gaines CB Rice

Cb with Speed. Need CBs in todays NFL

I agree with handling of the cap, I'm sure there is a plan similar to that to get under. I also believe we will add a DT (more than likely Melton) in free agency and maybe even resign Hatcher. Which in turn would set us up to take a BPA in the draft approach, but I don't agree with the direction you went with yours. We need impact players with the first two picks neither of your first two fit that mold IMO and both (WR and OL) could be and should be addressed in later rounds. I'm thinking DL, Safety, LB, or even QB if a good one fell should be amongst the first two picks options. but that's JMO.

Im going with whats being said by Jerry and Stephen. They said they have alot of young players they like at Lber and Safety. I know its not popular with fans but get used to it because i doubt they go Safety or Lber early.

Im not a fan of either top Safeties. Id rather have Brooks over both and he can be had in RD3. I could see them going after Telvin Smith if they just dont like Carter at the Will. Me personally would love to see Carter playing the Sam. He is a beast playing against the LOS looking for hits.

So, sign an injured player who won't be ready until training camp, and then wait until the comp pick in the 7th to take a linebacker.

The rest seems fine. But injured players with no practice until July and leave the status quo for linebacker is a scary thought.

Good effort though.

Love your ideas on the cap and free agency but the mock got ugly for me after round 4.

And if we are going WR in Round 2 it better be because Odell Beckham or Brandin Cooks fell to us. Maybe even Allen Robinson.

If you're going to take Jerry's word on S and LB then what about him saying you can't invest too many resources into 1 spot when referring to using a high pick on an o lineman?

I would actually dislike the Martin pick. We could trade down and good experienced guards that are just as good.

I dont know about Jerry but my ideal 1st rd pick is somebody i want to hopefully re-sign after his rookie contract. We are defintly resiging Tyron and Tfred, add another 1st rd Ol and thats a lot of money spent on the OL.I am still ok with Ol in the first but are we really going from a phyical freak like Tyron to Zack martin, thats a bit underwhelming.

Good looking post. Don't agree with much of it but it makes it interesting to look into some of your moves. Decent facts you took the time to look up but a few of them could be told with a different approach. I like the cap savings you get with Ware in 2015 of about 17 mil in 2015 if he is cut now in addition to this years savings that is in the same ballpark as you save by the restructure. Dallas has WRs that made the offense go in 2013 and will be fine in 2014 with no additions. Like the BC linebacker also.

Great post, I agree on 95% of it, totally agree on Melton and that you don't need a LB until you draft a Will late in the draft.

My only nitpicks is that they will create more than enough room on restructures and I think they won't restructure Carr as insurance against him declining this year. Also I would never cut Hayden, he was OK starting at the 1 last year and would be a good (and cheap) backup there this year.
