qb - romo is our starter. release d. bledsoe before march 2 unless he is willing to take backup money. if not, draft john beck in the 4/5 round

hb - jj, mb3, tyson thompson should be fine. no changes here. bring in a few free agent rookies for competition purposes

fb - o. hoyte is adequate. needs polishing at pass catching

wr - glenn will be 33 and owens will be 34 this year. age and injuries are a cause for concern. both were injured last year. crayton isn't starting material and can't stretch the field. he plays the center well. i'm just not sold on him. hurd and austin are green. this year's draft is loaded at the wr position. i'd draft a speedster like t. ginn, r. meacham, or jl higgins to eventually take over for either glenn or owens.

te - witten, fasano, and hannam make this a strong position. no changes here

lt - f. adams and p. mcquistan should be fine. it won't be our strongest position on the o-line, but you can't have all pros at every spot.

lg - kosier did an adequate job, not great but he's the least of our worries.

c - gurode played well. resigning him is a top priority. i would let a. johnson walk in free agency and then either draft a k. young, l. harris, or d. fry in rounds 4/5/6 as our backup. ej whitley may also be a possibilty. he was on IR all last year

rg - rivera has been awful for the past two years. it was a mistake to sign him, and therfore it is time he departed. post june 1st would save some cap $$$. i would make it a priority to sign either e. steinbach, k. dielman, or l. davis if he is willing to move to guard. i wouldn't be opposed to shifting kosier to the right side if the other plays the left better. c. proctor is our backup, and another year learning the position will do him wonders.

rt - resign columbo. he played well and there's not a lot of options in free agency. j fabini or a late round draft pick should be adequate as our backup. we have 3 7th round choices this year.

I'm not comfortable with our RB situation at all. Both JJ and MB are situational type backs.

We need a playmaker at the position. No more of RB by committee garbage.

Regardless, if Norv Turner really is hired as HC, our RB situation will change. Norv likes to have an every down type back and will look for one in the draft or FA.

Our offensive line is still a glaring weakness and like you said, we are ancient at WR.

I think Bill made the point and made it well -- there are simply not that many 20 carry-a-game backs left in this league. Julius was 14th overall in the league in carries. That's an every down back in today's NFL. Personally, I think that if Julius got more carries late -- like he did in the Seattle game that he'd have bigger #s -- but I'm talking an extra 3-4 carries a game at most.

Folks need to realize -- we've got a very solid RB combo here. We can tweak how we use them a bit but this shouldn't be where we focus our energy -- it is totally unrealistic to expect to get another guy in here to carry the rock 350 times a season.
