OffSeason Officially Over: Skins Start Camp...

The offseason is officially over.
The Washington Commanders gathered on Saturday afternoon for a team meeting, and on Sunday morning they’ll be the first NFL team to have a real, live training camp practice in 2008.
Coach Jim Zorn said on Saturday that morning practices will be “heavy,” with players typically in full pads. The afternoon sessions will be less intense, and on some days veterans will practice only once per day.
“You will see some days will be a morning practice and a special teams practice in the afternoon,” Zorn said. “There won’t be anything else but special teams.”
Still, the experience will be more intense than the camps under Joe Gibbs, with more contact.
“I think our lines — they’ll have physical contact every day,” Zorn said. ”Our running backs and our linebackers [will have contact]. Even our defensive backs and receivers have to learn how to block or shed blockers downfield.
“It’s the live contact, where you’re taking a guy to the ground and leaving your feet — we have to watch that [to avoid injuries].”
Because of extensive offseason practices, which entail plenty of contact in T-shirts and shorts, training camp for most if not all teams generally isn’t the same grueling, physical hardship that it has been in past years.
Still, it can turn serious. Seven years ago, Vikings tackle Korey Stringer died due to practice in intense summer heat.

Funny! I know it isn't our Cowboys but as a rival it's worth keeping an eye on. No matter what, I am pumped to know somebody is starting camp. The hell with the other sports, Football is back!!!!!!!!

Where's Cooley; he'd fit in so well in his shortie shorts--such cute legs. Ugh. Can't stand the guy.

Jim Zorns TC notes:

"Try to impress Danny and do football things"

What are some realistic expectations of the Skins? I mean we all poke fun at them because they are who they are but honestly what does anybody think they can do with a very raw coach and a decent running back who likes to play dress up.

I don't think so, IMO, they finish third ahead of the Giants. Dallas, Eagles, Skins and Giants.

Am I mistaken or is Campbell learning yet another offense? This kid has probably forgotten more plays than most QBs have learned.

I am in the minority here but I think they have enough talent to win the division and make a strong run in the playoffs. All 4 nfc east teams are good enough for that.

This offense might be wide open and take chances and that may allow them to score alot more points.

They have the talent. If I were them I would be worried about that secondary and the loss of gregg williams could be really big.

I dont think zorn is in over his head. I think campbell will be very successful and I think they are going to be very difficult to play.

Don't know what to think of Zorn. You gotta admit it's kind of strange that the Seahawks kept him as their QB coach but never gave the chance to gain more position as a position coach at another position or even make him an OC or at least an asst OC. It's a big jump from QB coach to head coach and Commander fans won't be too patient; many of already think he's keeping the job warm for "the jaw" who I actually think will take the Panther job if he becomes available.

I hope "the jaw" takes the panthers job or any other job but the skins. I like Cowher and would hate to have to hate him because he sold his soul to the devil.

I think they're in BIG TROUBLE. I live here in MD. and follow them closely. Lets start with their HC:

Zorn- The guy has NEVER been more then a QB coach on the NFL level. Never been a OC or HC. He's a icon in Seattle from his playing days and then being the QB coach for many years. Seattle practically raised the guy, they know him inside and out but yet they decided with the help of Holmgren who I respect alot to choose Jim Mora JR. as HC next year when Holmgren retires. That speaks volumes to me and I think Mora Jr. is a complete joke but yet they still didn't give JZ the job.

QB- JC is average at best. Infact, alot of the fans around here want TC the backup to start over JC. He damn sure played better then him last season. JC is a big, strong, tall, 7 step drop down the field QB and they're trying to fit him into a WCO which is a 3 step drop quick read offense. I don't see JC making those reads quick enough and getting the ball out accurately. Especially with his slow release.

RB- Portis or Chu Chu the dance instructor as he likes to be called is extremely injury prone and has slowed down alot over the years. He's more concerned with wearing dresses and wigs and acting a fool.

OL- Their OL is old and hurt all the time. Christine Samuels plays on one leg virtually every year. Randy Thomas hasn't played a full season in 4yrs. Rabach is a avg center at best. The cat they got from the Jets is in his 12th season and stays hurt and Jansen is also old and coming off injury.

TE- Cooley is good and their only real bright spot on O.

WR- Here they're relying on ROOKIES and midgets to get the job done. We all know what ROOKIE WR's contribute in their 1st yr or 2 in the NFL. Randle EL is a circus act, leaving Moss as their only threat and his play dropped off big time last year.

On defense they're really in trouble. GW was a master mind and kept their D playing at a decent level even through injuries. He's gone to Jacksonville and thats a HUGE loss.

DL- This group is terrible. They get absolutely ZERO pass rush and we all know how important that is.

LB's- McIntosh is coming off big time injury, Fletcher is really good but also really old and Washington stays hurt as well.

CB's- Rogers coming off major knee surgery, Smoot SUCKS, Springs is getting old and we see how he covered TO last year in BIG D. He couldn't!!

Safties- Landry is very good but has to stop making boneheaded personal fouls at the wrong time. He did this numerous times last year. The other safety, well who the hell is he? They are a totally different secondary with the loss of Taylor, R.I.P. He was their rock and now he's gone.

In closing, there's a reason and plenty of them why everybody picks them to finish DEAD LAST. It's obvious, they SUCK!!!!!!:lmao2:
