What a difference a year makes. Last year there was a seemingly endless list of needs. This year an argument could be made that even if we had no draft we would be fine.

QB - Stole a starting qb with a bright future with a comp 4th rd pick. Could keep Romo as backup but I don't see that happening and I do think he will be in demand and we will get something for him. We will get Kellen Moore back. Sanchez should be gone. No real need here but I could see adding a QB if they believe he could be developed with a late round pick.

RB - Zeke is the shiznit. Backups are capable. No real need here but possible late round pick could replace one on the roster.

TE - This one is a matter of opinion and a bit of an unknown due to Swaim and Hanna injuries and the failure of Escobar but Rico Gaethers seems to be impressing. Witten will likely be back although there is an outside chance he could go out on top if we win it all. Especially if his best friend leaves. I think he comes back and I don't view this position as a huge need yet. I would not waste a premium pick here unless someone they absolutely love is a huge value when time to pick.

WR - This is an area I would like to see addressed but you could make the case it is not a need. Williams is an unknown(will he be resigned) and Butler is progressing but not a huge threat. Dez and Beasley are set. I see one being drafted but not a huge need.

OL - The strength of the team but Free could stand to be upgraded and Leary could be gone. A mid to late round guard as a backup and RT is a possibility at any time in the draft. Green is still unknown. Could stick with Free for another year and give Green one more year to progress. Not a huge need but a possibility.

There are no glaring weaknesses on the offense and the few areas of concern can be filled with cheap FA signings. Any premium pick used to address the offense would be viewed by me as a luxury. A stud WR to add to Dez and Bease would be the impact pick that could really give defensive coordinators nightmares.

Defense

DE- and edge rusher would be the one position I think everyone agrees is the most needed on the entire team but even that could be argued as not as a sure thing as it first appears. Lawrence is back and will have the offseason to get healthy, Irving is showing some real promise. Tapper will hopefully be healthy next year. Tyrone Crawford can always kick out to DE in a pinch. Any potential contribution from Gregory should be viewed as a bonus but one that could happen. This is where I use my First rd pick and I would probably add another later on in the draft. I might even make this position the one I try to address Via free agency as well. There is little chance we do not add an Edge rusher this offseason.

DT - We are pretty set here but another can't be ruled out. Terrell Mcclain should be brought back but he may have played himself into a higher contract that we don't want to match. Collins, Thornton and Crawford are legitimate starting quality DT's and Irving slides into DT in some situations as well. Not a need but if the right guy is there you add one.

LB - For a lot of the time we only use 2 LB's and next year those two will be Lee and Jaylon Smith. I can't wait for that. We also have Hitchens, Wilson and Nacho(who I think is going to offer some situational contirubions). Durant is likely gone but already replaced and and addition here would be a luxury. Guys like Wilber and Gachkar are just afterthoughts If the right one is there you take him but not a need.

CB - this position is a little more interesting. Carr could be cut to save money and who knows if we will be able to re-sign claiborne. Scandrick and Brown are there as well. Last year I would have viewed this as one of the most important positions to address. Carr and Claiborne have improved and Brown was a steal in the 6th round. I think we draft a CB and could be fairly early. 2nd or 3rd round but if they resign claiborne and keep Carr this is not really a need at all.

Safeties - Another position I would have said in prior years was a huge need but Wilcox has shown improvement and Church is not a huge liability. Heath is an adequate backup for Byron Jones who I think is going to see the game slow down for him and he is going to become the ball hawk we had all hoped for. Not a huge need but I am looking to replace Church's salary and If the right SS is there I take him.

So basically we are in a position to have no glaring needs and draft for impact. The most impactful players we could get would be Edge rusher, WR, SS IMO and a RT might be in the mix as well. A CB might be a need if we don't resign Claiborne or decide to rid Carr's salary.

WIth all of this said, this is my mock draft. Each pick with fall back plans.

1. Takkarist Mckinley. Taco Charlton, Charles Harris Edge
2. Cameron Sutton, Adoree Jackson, Kevin King CB
3. Eddie Jackson, Justin Evans, Josh Harvey-Clemons SS
4. Stacy Coley, Fred Ross, Travin Dural WR
6. Levon Myers, Jonah Pirsig, Clint Van Horn OT
7. Fred Zerblis, Alex Cozan, Caleb Petersen OG
7. Gereld Everett, Billy Freeman, George Kittle TE

This doesn't include any unknown Comp picks or picks received from trades as they are not currently known.

Edge rusher, Replacement for Carr or Claiborne, Starting caliber SS ridding us of Church's salary, a replacement for T Williams, a couple of O-linemen to use as backups and a backup TE in the mix.

Church, Wilcox, Carr, and Claiborne are all FA this offseason.

Secondary is a huge need, *as of right now*. I think Carr and Church stay. Wilcox and Claiborne are wildcards. Brown playing well was a huge benefit, maybe Frazier can step up and fill the Wilcox role next year. He was a big hitter.

DE is definitely a need. And with Demarcus becoming a FA after next season, and the amount DE's command on the market, a 2nd developmental type guy a little later could make sense.

TE won't be picked unless it's far and away BPA. Witten, Hanna, Swaim, Gathers.

I'd say it's
1) Pass rush
2) Secondary
2a) WR
3) Tackle

Luckily DE is pretty deep, secondary is too, and WR is weak at top end but has a lot of guys that can potentially be #2's, Tackle is weak overall but with all the DE, secondary, WR, and pretty deep amount of TE's, could push a better talent to us in the 4th or something. I'm hoping Cleary has potential at RT.

I don't think a decent OT will fall to us but you never know, but most likely a higher rated player of another position will be available at our picks in mid rounds. A couple of late round OT too look at are Jon Heck out of North Carolina. He can only play RT but he has good technique. Needs a year or 2 in the weight room though. Another one i really like is Storm Norton out of Toledo. He possibly has starting potential but i like him as a swing tackle. Has the size to play RT and the athleticism to play LT.

Carr Has one more year on his contract but we might cut him or try to get him to restructure etc. Wilcox I don't think will be expensive to resign but we will see. I drafted a CB in the 2nd and SS in the 3rd.

Nah we don't need to use our 3rd on a Strong Safety. All we require is a box safety and they can easily be had in later rounds. Safety class is so deep that their will be plenty available in later rounds who can fill the role. Also our future at SS may already be on the roster in Frazier. Would rather go DT early or take a 2nd CB early then take a safety like Eddie Jackson that we won't take advantage of full range of skills.

First 3 or 4 picks should all be defensive with improving the pass rush the objective.

OG or back up C should not be a need, not with both Looney and Cooper on roster. And Bernadeau is still out there and could be had on the cheap.

Cooper was just signed for the playoffs. He is a free agent. He might want to go to a team where he has a better chance to start.

When the identity of the team is the OL, they should keep adding young talent there. Probably no Interior OL in the top 3 rounds this year, but if there is a talented OG or OC/OG in the 4th or later it would be reasonable to take him.

I think Bernadeau is done. He was quickly cut by the Jags who have had problems on their interior OL.

I agree it shouldn't be the list of actual needs. An upgrade would be nice tho. really don't want to see a premium pick used on one though.
