Blah, blah, blah. That's all I read now. I havent seen this much negativity since the Galloway trade, now we did give up too much for him. Step back from the computer and say this to yourselves "We did not give up too much for Roy Williams". Feel better now?

We basically gave up a first, we recouped the other picks, so next year on draft day and the Lions are in our spot (which should be pretty high), tell yourself that Roy Williams is our number one pick.

Jerry is no fool, this is why he stockpiled picks. You guys realize we still have 9 picks? With the possibility of 11. Theres no way 9 will make this team, let alone 11, and Jerry can still trade into the first, if the war room thinks we need a pick in the first.

I respect the hell outta Jerry, granted he rolls the dice a lot, but most times hes dead right, Id love to take him to Vegas with me to the tables. He's a hella owner that takes risks to win, I like that. Ask fans of another team to be completely honest if they would want Jerry as an owner, I bet 99% would say yes.

So I say this again: ENOUGH WITH THE NEGATIVE WAVES MORIARTY!

I love the trade. We gave up basically a 2nd if we go as far as we expect, 3rd, 6th, and got Roy E. W. and a 7th.

I think both teams got what they needed.

We got a sorely needed legitimate #2 WR to get Owens some favorable matchups.

Detroit got picks that will help stock pile new talent for re-building if they play their cards right.

Amen. I was telling my friend who is a Giants fan that we still have a 2nd, a 3rd, two 4ths, two 5ths, a 6th, and two 7ths. He was pissed off. He thought we gave away half of our draft or something and were left with a couple of picks. We got a Pro Bowl receiver in his prime for a late 1st round pick. Those other picks count, but they were gravy we had stockpiled. We still have plenty of ammo to move up for a first or an extra second or third or whatever. This team is set for many years to come. THANK YOU JERRY!

We have Roy Williams as our #2!!

Are you kidding me?

Do you know how many fans would give their team's entire draft for a #1 WR like Roy Williams? (ahem, Eagles)

And we have him as our #2!

I don't know what anyone could possibly be complaining about.

I hate adding proven talent to the thinnest WR group in the league outside the middled aged #1, in place of the ability to roll the dice on a late first round pick! C'mon 7s! Gimme once of those studs ike Charles Rodgers or Mike Williams & we are set @ WR for 10 years!!!

We shoulda just waited it out ONE more year! We could pull TOs replcement @#28 and have him ready next year. JJ is all over WRs. Always has been. Look how he called this years lot who couldnt play in front of Stanback. NAILED it. 2 words. Suckers.

I had to laugh at the Idiot Cowboy hater Shawn Farnam on Fox Sports radio when the trade was annouced, he said the same thing about us giving away half our draft, not knowing we still had all those picks left.:laugh2:

Well I think 9 guys can make this team and here r the names that should be replaced. Hurd, Proctor, Mcquistan, Berger, Curtis, Rogers, Carpenter, Watkins, Bowen and that's jus off the top of my head. That's not including possible retirements B Johnson, G Ellis, Z Thomas along with free agents like Columbo and Canty. So that's the list and I didn't even look any of the names up I'm sure I can find more 4U.

I don't think you can discount the loss of the picks. Just because we had an extra 3 doesn't mean you write it off with the deal. You can't even write off the 6th.

I do agree the hoopla over it is unwarranted. You get one of the better WRs in the league and the 7th pick of his draft for a late one, ??late three, and ??late sixth. And those are next years picks and you get him now. In return you hope you don't lose 2 impact players with the loss of the 3 and 6.

I think it unreasonable to think 9 or 11 guys will make this team next year either. It is unlikely we will have that many picks at the end of draft day.

lol I only see posters like Nors being against it, because they pride themselves on going against the norm to get attention.

Let them whine. This way they can be laughed at when they're praising how good Roy did for us, come the end of the season.

Ok if we gave up to much for him tell me this. What WR were you targeting in the later part of round one, you know the WR Dallas had to eventually get at some point to be the #1 when TO retires, that was for sure going to be a more proven WR than Roy Williams?

Also, seeing that if you answer you were actually going to choose anyone in the later part of round one that would fit that bill you're an idiot, I'll pose the next question.

What kind of draft pick do you think the Boys would have had to give up to move up from their spot in the 20's, to up into the early teens in order to draft a WR worthy of a first round choice this next year? I'm thinking at LEAST a #3?

Hmmm...A first, and a third, in order to draft a rookie this April...sounds awfully familiar for something...

I love the "Oddball" reference. My all time favorite Donald Sutherland role.

Great post too.

I love how people act like the draft is an exact science and a sure path to success.

Let me give you some names from recent years:

Bobby Carpenter
David LaFleur
Shante Carver
Dwayne Goodrich
Anthony Fasano
Quincy Carter
Skyler Green
Rob Petitti
Zuriel Smith

This is really a trick question on both sides of the equation.

On the one side you have the variable Roy Williams. How good you think he is is significant and ultimately what will determine IF we did in act OVERPAY.

On the other side are the picks and this is where I believe a lot of the talking heads and novices get caught up in the sticker shock. All they see is a 1,3 and 6 for Williams.
They miss the high 7th we get back and the fact that the difference in value between that and the late 6th we're giving is practically nothing.

That leaves us with a 1st and 3rd for Williams. Let's assume we come up short this year. We lose the NFC Championship and end up with pick 30.

We will have given the 30th and 90th pick for Williams. I've follow the draft closely for years and can assure you the value here packaged in a trade up would get you to the 21st pk at best.

So there you have it, I'VE SIMPLIFIED THE EQUATION BEST I COULD:

Roy Williams now(last 10 games and post season) for a SB contender OR the 21st pick in the 2009 draft.

Now go ahead and tell me we overpaid!
