I swear Ab, as I was reading this profile I thought, "so what?" I weigh about 15 pounds less than that guy, but I am faster and apparently stronger because I'm benching 375 right now and have a goal of 400 in the next 2 years.

You keep taking the steroids and you'll get there!

yeah, but this kid is like 20 years old best I know of, time to grow into more size, and even at that, with a 352 bench press at 20 years old or so, is still pretty good, so was just wondering if anyone has seen him play,

my grandmother can bench more than that, course she is 6 6 350.

When I played I was tempted to take them. I mean really tempted. I saw the results and wondered.

I never did try them, but I'd be lying if I said I am above it because had I not got hurt I probably would have.

Needs time in weight room?

thats nothing for a guy weighing 300 pounds....

benching twice your weight is impressive, 1.5 times your weight is good strength...

not that it matters, i prefer leg strength anyways.

I didn't know there were so many weight lifting champions on the site :laugh2:

I was in the same boat.

I didnt take them because I couldnt afford anything good.
The cheap crap is really bad for you.

A couple of the guys I played with went onto powerlifter/bodybuider careers and they used them but got better stuff than the crap from the pharmacy in mexico.

I am glad I stayed away as a temporary strength/size gain just isn't worth the risk.

I would take HGH if I could afford it prescribed and monitored by a doctor like those balco guys.

I've done 335 as a max but that was weighing 205.

Right now being old(35 lol) and out of shape I can do 255 or so weighing 200.

They weren't illegal then though were they? I think the NFL adopted a policy in 1989 - in a situation like that how can you blame any player for using? Here's something that can make you better physically.

What was the sense back then? Did folks know they were doing something wrong -- was it seen as cheating?

It was 1986 and everyone already knew it was wrong. Plus I was in college not the pros, so they were illegal.

The drug of choice at that time was dianabol. To my knowledge dianabol has never been legal in any form.

Guys used to inject between their toes to hide the track marks if they thought trainers were on to them.

I think what kept me away more than anything was I do not like needles.

Didn't Anthony Spencer bench nearly 500 lbs at Purdue?

A bench press of 352 seems a little light for a D-Lineman to me

I don't know what Spencer benched, but I do know that Larry Allen benched over 700 lbs. How can a D-lineman (a NT nonetheless) that doesn't even bench 400 go up against guys similar to Allen. Don't get me wrong, no player in the NFL is as strong as LA, but there are some extremely powerful offensive linemen out there.

that's a good reason, I can't stand the thought of needles being poked into me

I will say it is important to remember that the core of your body strength isn't in your arms.

but ya 350 at his weight is weak sauce, but if he can squat a ton then he is a beast, mjority of push is from the legs and He won't face too many 350 plus o linemen, so he might not be as bad as we all are pretending. Bench press is cute for bragging rights but grand scheme its not all that accurate as a measure of overall strength.

It's true that a person's bench press alone isn't an all-telling stat regarding his overall strength. However, it is an indicator of how hard he works and his potential. I just find it hard to believe that a NT can't bench more than that and be very successful in the NFL. Not a definite, but an indicator.
