That's right back when Newman was a junior in the Big 12 he was thinking about coming out.

Everyone was riding Jammar jock (on this board) and wanted him as are draft pick. I said Jammer was not the best CB in the Big 12 and would be a bad pick in the top 15. I was touting Newman and if he came out we should trade down and get him.

I always thought Newman was a better CB because of what I saw in the games I saw. I saw a guy that had the quickness and speed to break on balls to deflect them where Jammer was about power. (no this is not hindsight 20/20 I posted on it :p:)

Low in behold Newman took the advice and went back for his senior yer turning himself from a late 1st round pick to a lottery pick. Plus he has been the better player.

:D

I really liked Newman and liked the pick at the time.

However I think it is a tad early in the morning for an I told You so thread.

I have not had my coffee yet.

Did I mention I hate coffee and don't drink it?

Nevermind, I am just thinking aloud.:p:

For every story about one "who got it right" there's a story about one "who got it wrong."

As for Jammer, I think the board was divided between him and Roy Williams. I know I wanted Roy Williams instead of Jammer, but I think the Cowboys would have selected Jammer if he were still there at our pick.

Fortunately, San Diego took him removing the second guessing, just like Detroit did in selecting Mike Williams.

See, some things do work out after all. :D

Everyone was riding Jammer jock on this board? I didn't know this board was that old, considering Jammer was drafted 5 years ago. I guess i must be missunderstanding you?

Before this board, with this software, was created there was another cowboyszone board with a different software package.

I didn't want Jammer as well but i didn't know anything about Newman at the time, I was just sure that I wanted R. Williams over Jammer. As for Newman, the year he was drafted I was on the Byron Lethwich bandwagon. Either case I'm happy how it shook down.

I'm just glad we got Roy instead of Jammer.. it's cool though, we got arguably our two best players in back to back years and both of them were Big 12 defensive backs taken in the top 10..

I wanted Jammer over Roy Williams. My Mother (who is a huge Cowboy fan) told me that if Dallas took Jammer over Roy Williams that they'd be sorry.

Heh, looks like she was right and I was wrong. Smart lady, that Mom.

I think his point was if they came out the same year, notice he did say Newman went BACK to school.

Also if we would have taken Jammer that year, chances are we would not have taken Newman the next year.

At least that is what I got from it, who knows if that is what he really means.:D

I propose a seperate "I Told You So" forum.

That no one would read...because we don't care.

IIRC Some people on this, actually the old board, wanted us to take Terrell Suggs instead of Newman. I still say we made the right choice.

everybody was down on him in 04.you cant blame them the way he was playing.

I was the one saying he was top 5 after his rookie year and he made me look very dumb that next year.Everybody i told that too made me look dumb.

But im looking smart again, but since they dont really follow dallas that closely they just remember that 04 year and think newman still sucks.

Most are falcon fans so week 15 they will see for themselves.

Yeah, that's why I deleted the post like 30 seconds later. My bad, reading comprehension is underrated.

Neither of those drafts (Roy's or Newman's) is a second guess slam-dunk IMO.

There is often more than one formula for success. Could we have taken Suggs over Newman and been equally successful? I think probably. It would of course have changed subsequent drafts.

But more importantly I think time has proven thus far that the strategy we executed in those drafts was sound. Newman is a very worthy player and we apparently have found our Suggs in Ware.

What I'm really glad about is that Leftwich has turned out IMO to be just a middle of the road QB. I think he is playing below expectations of those who liked him and if we'd have drafted him there would be lots of folks who by now would be annually lamenting our waste of a pick that high.
