besides justin tv
even a pay site

Not my area of expertise from PC standpoint in the old days you had to get a TV tuner card but with the new TV's and video cards it has gotten easier.

So if you have a newer TV (almost all your HD tv's have it) and your computer has a dvi or an hmi plug then you just plug the video card to the TV liek you would a monitor.

Now on recording it usually takes a software to record to your pc Hard drive like a tivo

There is a linux set up call freevo

http://freevo.sourceforge.net/

That has been around about 8-10 years so it has been developed for a long time

There looks to be a PC TIVo software

http://www.tivo.com/buytivo/tivo-accessories/software/tivodesktoppc.html

get a hdmi wire if your pc has a hdmi port, if not get a vga-hdmi adapter or whatever and plug it into your tv.

Its really simple, just find out which ports each use and get the right combo and just plug it in and go.

It always amazes me how computer savvy younger people are.

I can get by, but I'm nowhere close.

SAY what ???????????

Can you Record of hdmi? I thought you'd bump into Copy protection (HDCP)?

Back in the day I'd have said get a video capture card for your computer and hook your tv receiver to it. Been a while since I tried to record to my computer though.

Just so you know, I you don't already, video takes up a ton of space until it's compressed, so you'll need some storage.

If you're looking for a Hulu-type site that plays television, movie, and sports content....try tvshack.net. It's not live, but they usually post content in a matter of about one day after its aired on television. Fair to good quality, even if its blown up to a large monitor or screen via DVI/HDMI, etc...

what I want is to run my pc to my TV

see I am trying to cut out my Direct TV bill

guess I going to have to go to best buy an ask some questions

plus are there any DVR's you can buy without having to rent one

if you have an hd tv,(like r2a said) you can buy a cable that connects your computer to your tv. most newer tvs have a port for this just look on the back of your tv for this. now you just need to know what ports you have on your computer, if you have an HDMI port on your computer this is best with hd tvs. bestbuy makes most of its money on these cables so when you go ask them, as long as you have the right info for them, they will not screw it up.

you pretty much have two options with dvrs, one is renting the unit through your provider, and the other is tivo where you buy the unit out right but you have pay for 1,2,or 3 year subscription plan.

now if you want the dvr just to record the games then put them on a hard drive i have no idea how/if you can do that. if you are trying to watch them through your computer while its live you can get video capture software but as was said this can eat up hard drive quick. if you are trying to watch the games from a site that is not live i would think you most likely would be downloading it and that is real easy to get on an external drive. i know a lot of people use tenyardtorrents.com but i dont so idk how quick games get posted but i know R2A does so maybe ask him about it.

hope this helps

I got banned for a bad share ratio :laugh2:

Usually within a few days it got posted.

On the subject of DVR's, about 4 years ago I bought a Panasonic DVD player/recorder with a built-in hard drive to pair with my basic cable set-up.

Never had a dish so I'm not completely familiar with all the features of their associated DVR's but I think mine functions pretty much the same with no ongoing fees. Record, slip-time, library functions etc. Been taping Cowboy games to the hard drive and then editing out commercials etc before then taping down to DVD for the library.

Its been really convenient. I think I paid about $300 for it. Great investment at the time though technology since then has no doubt zoomed on past it.

My desktop also has a TV tuner (3-4 years old) so I tape there sometimes as well since my DVR hard drive space is more limited.
