Okay, forget Mario Williams

I think Williams is gonna get a huge contract somewhere and hopefully it ain't in Dallas. I just don't see the wisdom of bringing in a guy like him to do Spencer's job. One of the OLB's production would suffer and then we'd be reading about how the coaching staff doesn't know how to use them. I keep seeing a reference to the attempted Nnamdi signing a think it's a completely different situation. The Cowboys knew they had to replace TNEW and tried but came up short. I just don't see that happening again this year when it comes to Carr. I think he FA priority #1.

My one concern with Williams would be the fact that he'd be switching positions for the second time in three years (Williams played Ware's spot in Houston's 3-4). I think people either don't realize or sometimes forget that rush linebacker and strongside linebacker in a 3-4 is a world of difference. Williams would be asked to play the run and drop into coverage pretty regularly. His size means he probably won't have any problems but it still worries me a bit.

I really want to again stress that I see no chance of us getting him, but if we did, we wouldn't play him like we play Spencer. He wouldn't be in coverage often. We would probably play a lot of Nickel situations, some 4-3... mixed stuff...

I also remember reading that he struggled early on with his coverage in Houston.

coverage for anyone of 260lbs and over is mostly a joke anyway. All they do is occupy an area. Minor consideration

Hos,

apologies in that I may have missed this . . . .

but in your opinion, Williams would play DE primarily, correct? (i.e., not rush LB)

Or would RR just move him around his defense?

Thanks.

Is this a serious post?

+1
If they're gonna spend big, begin w/ Carr & Nicks...

Yes, RDE. Can you imagine him and Ware on the same side?

:)

I hope it happens. More than Nicks, imo, if it's between the two of them plus a CB.

I'd be very extremely happy with Carr and Williams.

Williams is the main reason why I don't think we go after Nicks.

Sounds as if Houston may end up getting him resigned. They have restructured Andrea Johnson contract to free up money. We will have to wait and see but would not be surprised to see Mario back in Houston.

So, Hos, you think Spencer stays whether Mario Williams comes here or not?

I keep thinking that Mario means playing a lot more four man fronts, thus minimizing Spencer compared to his potential cost.

I don't think so. I think it frees Spence up to play the run and not have to be relied on to get pash rush. With that burden and another stud rusher look for his numbers to rise.

I do think he stays.

I won't be shocked, but I honestly think he hits the market and we're the #1 destination.

I'd love to get him. Not trying to throw cold water on people hopes but I do think some top FA people are looking at right now including myself I think some will not hit the FA market as teams are now redoing contracts and freeing up money to get some of their players signed.

It isn't cold water, it is relevant information that we all should pay heed to.

These next few days leading up to the 13th should be very interesting.
