I have defended Roy all year and I got to thinking today. What could we get for him in a trade? In his six years he went probowl 3 and is most likely going again this year judging by the votes on NFL.com. If we put him up on the market this year what do you think we could get for him? His stats look impressive seeing as he leads the league so maybe with his stats hype and Probowls we could get something or someone nice. Your thoughts?

Wow. Was he that bad today?
I was the chef today and didn't get as much time in front of the TV as I'd have liked, so I can't say anything except I saw TNew pick and score, TO TD and Canty, Ellis and Newman slobbin' on some pie at the end.

Considering the Jet's got a whopping 3, I guess it's safe to say he wasn't beaten by a TE today.

Was he beaten a lot? I'm kind of partial to these guys, him and Julius, etc and would like to see them as Cowboys. That's all I know them as and like them as such.

No I was just watching all the old tapes from this year. I have to say he does get beat alot. After watching the tapes the homer in me just went running out the door. **** it went crashing through the wall like a road runner cartoon. I am not putting him down at all, The guy hits hard and hustles to whoever has the ball he also has the most tackles on our team but that might be because balls are thrown in his direction more then anyone else.
I think that the best thing for us to do at this point is to trade him get what we can and then pick someone up in FA this year as well as a new corner. And maybe picks for Roy.

I like your sig... That bit of nonsense still sticks in my craw; watching Brett fold on the ground like a jerk after Bubba Franks fakes a block makes me sick. Make that goof earn it.

interesting that D. Sanders called out Roy/Reeves today on NFL network. ROTF waiting for the stat-men to come in defending Roy's great performance all year.

he did better against the run today and Clemens posed no threat whatsoever in a rainy field so that is not an indicator how he'd perform against GB or the Pats (ie. games that matter this season)

Who played well in the secondary that game?

Anyone?

Not that it really matters. All this man-hate for RW is completely ridiculous anyway since we are now 10-1 with an improving defense week to week.

Keep crying about it though.

Jeebus, but I do get tired of these threads. :bang2:

I liked what we did today. Bring in Henry and Burnett and let Roy and Ayodele get some rest. Better coverage and still solid against the run.

If Roy and Akin get more rest and are more effective when they are in there, it will help out their productivity when they do play. Plus, it will take away from something that all teams try to do to us with their offense and puts better coverage in those situations.

We wouldn't be able to do that if we hadn't gotter pretty good coverage out of Reeves. With him playing better than expected, we can afford to let Henry play elsewhere and get Roy out of those crazy (for him) situations. It speaks volumes that Phillips will use Henry to replace someone else other than Reeves. He must be doing a pretty good job.

However, Roy isn't a bad player at all. He's just the guy teams target in their passing game, so we see him allowing passes more often than anyone else. I know they wouldn't target him if he always had good coverage... but they target him because he's the weakest coverage guy that's in there for us.

Remember when Kevin Smith got a reputation for getting pass interference penalties? It was around 95-96... somewhere in there. Well, after he got that reputation, teams would always try two or three deep passes against him per game and it never failed... he would either allow the completion or get a penalty. That didn't happen a lot at first because he wasn't so much of a target at first. Once they realized teams had success throwing deep against Kevin Smith... every stinking teams would try it.

So he was targeted a lot and so gave up a lot.

Look at it this way with Roy: Teams are going to allow some passing yards, we all know that. Two hundred yards is a pretty average to below average amount for your basic QB. They have to get those yards somewhere. Now, if they target Roy... it stands to reason that a decent amount of those passing yards will come against Roy.

I like that we're removing him from some packages because teams already know a big part of their gameplan when they're sure that Roy will be in there covering. When he isn't in there, however... they either won't know who the weak link is, or they'll have to figure it out. Either way, it screws up one of our enemies biggest parts of their gameplans.

Eventually though, they'll figure out who our new weakest link is in coverage and begin to target them... which will probably be Reeves. Then, he'll give up a lot more and everyone can start threads about what his trade value might be.

Bottom line is that it's silly for fans to get upset because we allow some passing yards. Like I said, my God... we're going to have to allow some passing yards because nobody shuts down today's NFL offenses.

No, he played damn good today. He usually plays above average for a Strong Safety. The problem is that too many people believe what 1 or 2 mediots tell them.

Roy is not a bad player, his coverage sucks Yes, but thats one of our few weakness so of course teams are going to exploited. Just the same way we prepare for teams weaknesses they prepare for us, Roy is one of them, but u trade Roy and u will not only lose Roy but u will give up a lot in stopping the run. There are teams out there with safety's that are worse then Roy, but more weakness to exploit so they wont get that much notice.
