Oklahoma's Dvoracek suspended indefinitely

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) - Oklahoma suspended starting defensive tackle Dusty Dvoracek indefinitely Friday pending an investigation into an incident that ended with one of Dvoracek's high school teammates in the hospital.
Dvoracek, an All-Big 12 selection and third team All-American last season, will miss at least the Sooners' game Saturday against Oregon. Oklahoma then has an off week before hosting Texas Tech in its Big 12 Conference opener Oct. 2. "As always, the university takes matters of this nature very seriously and is cooperating fully with the appropriate authorities in their investigation," Oklahoma associate athletic director of media relations Kenny Mossman said. "Standards for personal conduct have been set at the highest level within the athletics program and inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated.

"Dvoracek has been suspended from the team indefinitely by head coach Bob Stoops and will not play in this Saturday's game versus Oregon. Dvoracek also has been removed as one of the team's captains."

"Final determination as to Dvoracek's status with the team will be made once all of the facts are known."

Norman police said Friday they had contacted the family of Matt Wilde, one of Dvoracek's teammates at Lake Dallas (Texas) High School. Wilde suffered a head injury either late Saturday or early Sunday. His condition was upgraded from fair to good, Paula Price, a spokeswoman for Norman Regional Hospital said Friday.

Circumstances of how Wilde was injured are under investigation.

Police said Wilde's family did not want to pursue charges at this time. No arrests have been made and no charges have been filed.

Cleveland County District Attorney Tim Kuykendall has said he isn't sure whether any criminal behavior was involved, but he wants the incident investigated.

Stoops said Thursday he was conducting his own investigation into the circumstances surrounding Dvoracek, who was second on the team with seven sacks last season. Mossman said the university would make no further comment because the matter remained the subject of an ongoing investigation.

Junior college transfer Remi Ayodele and redshirt freshman Steven Coleman are listed as Dvoracek's backups on Oklahoma's most recent depth chart. Ayodele had the first 1.5 sacks of his Oklahoma career in last week's game against Houston. Coleman has not played in the Sooners' first two games.

Dvoracek has three tackles, including one for a loss, and one fumble recovery this season.

Wow. Sounds like he jacked up a High School friend. Good player too. Was one of the DTs I have been watching. Now he's possibly derailed his dreams.

Cut from the team.

Die hard Sooner fan here. Dusty should have been cut. Stoops did the right thing and the best thing for the team. This has been a pattern for Dusty the past 3 years. I wish he were still playing for the Sooners but not at the cost of the program overlooking serious problems to keep his talent. This is not Nebraska.

Stoops is just an upstanding guy. Good call!

I like the shot at Nebraska. :)

Too bad he has these issues. Not a bad player.
