It will be interesting to see if the slow starts on offense this year will repeat with Barber starting. Thoughts?

Will Barber be able to finish games like he has in the past with him now carrying the load?

Predictions for Barbers' carries through the season?
I think 19 a game average and 304 total sounds like a good amount.

19 carries a game is probably a good number for him.

20 and under and I think Barber could do well. One thing I would like to see more of this next season is more of a rotation of backs between downs instead of series.

Not every other down of course but just as needed.

the addition of Hudson Houck as OL coach will be huge IMO...Sparano's coaching never led to consistent run blocking, and everywhere Houck goes good run blocking follows

Houck will also be the best thing that could possibly happen to young guys like Free, McQuistan and Marten

Man oh Man you can say that again David ! The biggest FA move this year by JJ by far. Sparano's line blocking just never worked here. I am sooo pumped to have HH back.

MBIII made something out of nothing so many times last year it will be incredible to see him run through actual holes AND THEN start breaking tackles instead of in the backfield. I dare say even JJ would have been great under HH because he hits holes so fast and there were none last year.

tic toc tic toc...I can't wait !!!

Dude you're dead on the money about HH. I keep saying he's our WOW addition on offense this offseason. The guy is flatout good, TS couldn't carry his jock when it comes to OL coaching. Our running game will be much better this season...

Defenses didn't fear the Cowboys' running game when Jones was in. They hated it when Barber was lined up in the backfield. Why? They knew someone was going to get hit in the mouth. With JuJo, they knew he'd get muddled up in the middle of the line and fall to the ground.

I give the Boys an edge in the upcoming season with MBIII in the backfield. That's when I think they'll prosper more.

If you go back and look at the season, they passed more with Jones in the backfield.

You mean how the Giants D-line feared Marion barber in the playoffs?

The giants DL didn't fear anyone last year, that's why they won the SB. It did, however, take Strahan a while to get into game shape. He played, but he was nowhere as domineering early in the season as he was in the playoffs. His name might not have gotten called that much, but his presence was enough to make defense pay attention to him.

Side note, Barber was killing them in the first half. If you look at another thread on the board Spagnuola made halftime adjustments, we didn't.

I really think Free may truly bloom under Houck's run blocking system because he seems to like the chance to be moving when he hits someone.

All of them will show better footwork. I'm convinced of that. I'd like to see Gurode get better at the shotgun snap. I hope Houck has his eyes on people in the Draft. I think he can really spot nasty O-linemen.

Yep-you saw what happened to the Giants D when Strahan went down midway in the '06 season-sure, his stats have been almost nonexistent in recent years, however, their LBs were all of a sudden playing out of position, and their suspect secondary was doing so as well b/c they were getting torched thanks to a nonexistent pass rush. And he's also a MASSIVE voice in that locker room as well.

As for "Garrett not making adjustments"-honestly, I have NO idea how our OL just went JAILBREAK in the second half. I mean if you consistently run LONG drives on your opponent throughout much of the game, their D gets TIRED, right? But wow-their defenders just looked FRESH. Point being that I think it had to do with the MENTALITY of the players. Say all you want how Garrett is an idiot, but it never gets THAT bad, regardless.
