You do realize that it takes a more athletic ability to play tackle than it does to play guard?

Craig

No he has no clue how to run an O-line.

You're right about one thing, this OL and/or this scheme isn't getting it done.

You mentioned the short yardage power plays working... Hate to say it again, but Dan Reeves was noting during the Oakland game that we were far more successful with our power plays, but for some reason we kept running zone blocking plays. The long Felix run was a basic power play, but he said we then went like two series without running another man-on-man power play.

Why the HELL are we running so many zone blocking plays with these huge behemoths?

The only thing that I can think of at the moment is that a zone scheme assigns an area to each lineman. If the line is struggling in identifying their protection keys you could go zone to simplify the calls for them.Instead of identifying a key you just sit in your zone.

I'm talking about running plays, though.

It would apply to both running and passing plays. If the line is having some trouble with picking up a run blitz it could explain some of it.And it could be that they were just throwing another wrinkle out there for teams to account for.

My money is more on this one.

After all, we can't be one-dimensional now, can we?

These are the kinds of things we need our media to find out. Not TMZ headlines about Romo going to Vegas for 14 hours nine days before a game.

The cowboys OL is old and wears down late in the year. No surprise that the OL is worthless in Dec....the old guys get banged up and tired, just can't handle a complete season anymore (for a few years now).

The surprise is that our defense can't tackle, and special teams forgot how to play... Folk needs to be benched, the rookie needs to kick field goals or if he can't then get someone else.

Barber has not protected the ball or run well for some time now. Got his big payday and like so many players, stopped doing what made him successful. Newman also falls into this category...

Wade sucks in Dec. - nobody can argue anything different. He may be the worst coach in the month of Dec ever!!! My stomach turns everytime he gives one of his stupid political correct comments. He never seems to understand what the problems are or why they happen....Mr. Clueless has four games left.

I am with the OP. This line HAS to get younger. But I really think that the Center they missed in the draft caused them to scramble a bit. Had they got that guy...I really think they would have moved Gurode to guard. I would prefer a tactical center.....Gurode would be a very good guard. His strength, lower body power and ability to anchor is being wasted at Center. Quiet as kept....Leonard Davis lunges to much and misses. He is being paid like and would be fine at RT. Tell his big butt to get out there and quit crying. I was NEVER happy with the coin he got to play GUARD!!!!!!! Doug Free would be fine at LT. His ability to move laterally is really needed at LT. The ONLY way we get younger at OL is to cut the umbilical cord. Flo has been here since 1998...we have won ZERO with him. So much like Greg Ellis had to go...it is time for Flo to go. This is the same team the cut Troy and Emmit...so we should not lose sleep over cutting Flo.
