OL is at a big disadvantage at this point in camp.

They have been practicing most of training camp with 9 OLinemen for 5 positions due to injuries. Some of the OLinemen looked tired in the scrimmage.

The DL has been practicing most of training camp with about 15 players for 4 positions.

Also, it is much more difficult to develop continuity on the OL than on the DL.

At this point, if the DLine is not winning more often than the OLine, then there is probably a problem with the DLine.

Just based on how the drills are run the majority of the time, the defensive line has the upper hand no matter how deep you are.

At this point, they are just scrimmaging against each other. Let's wait a few weeks before we decided there are major concerns (there may be) on either side of the ball.

I think you get a lot more at this point from how they are doing in the one on one drills.

Until the OL has time to play together, it's much easier to take advantage of mental errors. Arkin has never started a real NFL game, Frederick is a rookie and Livings just got into camp coming off injuries. Hopefully Leary and Bernadeau will get back soon, along with Parnell, so we can try sorting out the best 5.

It's too late to take that approach with the OL...At every other spot on the team, we can take the wait and see approach. At this point with the OL, it's time to start looking at who's out there now, and who's going to be out there in the next few weeks. We've been waiting for this OL to be rebuilt for how many years now...After a week in camp, we can see that it pretty much remains the same..Or, at the very least, it's so close to being the same that we can assume not much has changed. Why would we have expected anything different? This team has the potential to be pretty dang special, and if the OL SCREWS it up, i'll be beyond pisssssssssssssssssssssssssssed. I can't blame the guys playing either..As the great phrase go's, "they are what they are"...They just shouldn't be there. Smith should be playiing on the right side, Frederick should be playing center, and we should have 3 other guys as good or better than those two in the other spots. The guys we have should get a shot at the practice squad, but that's it. I'd keep Leary as a backup to be trained only if we had someone good enough for him to learn behind. We want something different, we gotta do something different..

Feel better? :D

The o-line has been a frustration for all of us but they SHOULD be better this season if they stay healthy.

My biggest concern is the backups rather than the starters. If Leary is the real deal -- he is supposedly back today -- then he should push for a starting job and put Livings or Bernie in a backup role. If he does not earn a starting job then every backup lineman would be a huge question mark.

Oh, come on now! Everyone knows all this team needs is another 4th string TE and a better water boy and It's Super Bowl time, baby!

[/sarcasm]

I was exagerating a little when I said we needed to draft the best o-lineman on our board at every round this year.

But only exagerating a little. Now we have to deal with other teams castoffs if we are to do anything at all. It's not a smart situation to put yourself in.
