That backup that got hurt in the Seattle preseason game looked even better than Davis.
Shampklin isn't even on a practice squad.

Reaches injury settlement

September 2, 2022
The Cowboys waived Shampklin (ankle) from injured reserve Friday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
  • Davis looked like an NFL RB with great vision and good size with decent athleticism.
  • Shampklin looked an uber fast/quick/explosive but small athlete trying to become an NFL RB.
    • RBs often win in the preseason with athleticism.
    • There have been many stars of the preseason over the years at the RB position that did little to nothing in real games.
      • Daryl Clack anyone?
Having said that, I would give Shampklin another shot in camp next year depending on what other RBs on are the roster.

LT Peters
LG Smith
C McGovern
RG Collins
RT Ball

Of course, we ran it center-left behind Peters and Smith, but McGovern looked all right in there at center as well. Good to get those young guys a few snaps.
McGovern plays a lot, he was worth the draft pick, and his versatility is prime for the OL.

Anyone key in on Josh Ball watch any tape ? How did he look against the Colts. Glad he saw some action might need him down the road here .
They only played those backups for 3 snaps.
- They scored too quickly...

Josh Ball looked OK at RT in those 3 snaps...
- He also looked OK in 8 snaps at the end of the Vikings game.

Actually, he looked OK at RT in the camp/preseason. It was LT where he really struggled.
- It's odd because he played primarily LT in college.

LT at Marshall and LT in the NFL ….usually QB blindside your best pass rushers in the NFL up against your LT . If he’s capable of being Terrence Steeles’s competent RT depth that’s a win . Along with Waletzco and Farniok have some young depth when all three are healthy .

I agree that he looked much better at RT in camp than LT. Of course, he had been practicing at RT and then they threw him back over to LT because of the injury issues at the position. I thought he was improving at LT some before the move.

I'll have to go back and watch his snaps against the Vikings.

Took him a little while to settle in, but, of course, he missed his rookie year so last year was his first significant snaps and he wasn't up to the challenge yet. Fans tend to give up on players quickly.

Look at the 49ers they find late to undrafted FA RB gems all the damn time. This is why you don't need to draft a running back high.

What surprised me the most about this play was the fact that Rush was right on the heels of our running back as he was breaking free for that TD,

He ran it like an RPO and came around the edge completely untouched while Davis was weaving through the middle. Almost ended up throwing a block for him downfield, but didn't find it to be necessary. But yeah, I thought that was funny. Davis comes through the traffic and there's his quarterback.

McGovern dramatically better in 2022 than in his 4 starts in 2021.

I still think we'll move on from him next year because someone will give him a pretty good deal. Especially if Tyron wants to keep playing because we'll keep Tyler at guard until Tyron decides to call it quits if Tyron comes back in top form. That's questionable, of course.

I just don't see us adding any high draft picks on the line or paying much in FA next year. Might could bring back Peters on another one-year deal if we decide we need depth, but he's kind of an expensive insurance policy. Think we'd end up with a line of Tyler, Farniok, Biadasz, Martin, Steele before we'd bring back McGovern on a multiyear deal, but we'll see what they do if Tyron decides to hang 'em up.

This team's o-line and edge depth is the envy of the league. Still: Knock on wood we stay healthy.
can't be said enough how quality depth is such a luxury in this league.

Definitely won't keep both Tyron and McGovern.
