Good read on how he got his first taste of NFL football....

"Everybody came up to me and said, 'It's time to step it up; we need you here; it's a big game,' and I knew that coming in," Bernadeau said. "It's all about communication. We all communicated. They told me how my fits worked out, and what to work on, and if I need more help, just let me know."

"On double-teams, the fits were good," Wharton said. "There's still a lot of things that we've got to work on, because we've never played beside each other. He was confident in himself, and that's the main thing: being confident that you can play at this level. So he did a real good job."

So good that when the Panthers needed a game-clinching run in the game's final moments, they ran at the reconfigured left side. With blocks from Bernadeau and rookie fullback Tony Fiammetta -- himself an injury replacement -- providing a seam, Jonathan Stewart ran into the open field for the 45-yard touchdown that provided the final margin.

"I love pulling around the edge," Bernadeau said. "I ran out, saw my guy there and then the next thing I know, I saw Stewart running down the field for a touchdown. It's a great feeling because obviously you want to help make a big play like that, but to come at the end of the day and help seal the deal is a big thing."

I have hopes he can compete and be a decent signing. Assuming the money is very reasonable this is a decent get.

Good read. Thanks. Loves the idea of being a pulling guard around the edge ... like that!

I thought it was interesting to see him say pulling was something he loved to do.

Our offensive line is getting more mobile by the day.

Yous lost all credibility when i saw that you think Carr was a bad move. Thanks for the read though :)

I posted some of his combine earlier - he is a decent athlete with 28 vert, 9-1 broad jump and 4.56 short shuttle. Strength okay with 28 reps. Size is okay at 6-3.5 298 pounds.

He seems to fit our profile of smallish players with good agility. He also fits our new mold of leadership - team captain on his college team.

I like the pick and think he will be better depth than Dockery and may compete for a starting job. He already has some starting experience with 20 games under his belt.

BTW, look at the short shuttles and 3-cone drills of all our interior OL right now:

Kowalski: 4.56/7.15
Nagy: 4.47/7.36
Arkin: 4.63/7.60
Bernadeau: 4.56/7.47
Costa: 4.65/7.66

Now look at some of the guys board members love right now:

Cordy Glenn: 5.00/8.13
Osmele : 4.87/7.91
Silatolu: 4.87/7.95

Compared to:

Kevin Zeitler: 4.61/7.77
David DeCastro: 4.56/7.30
Brandon Brooks: 4.58/7.42

Based on the guys we have been signing lately I'm betting that we are not too enamoured with Glenn, Osmele or Silatolu.

Our move may be to trade down to the early second for a shot at Zeitler who would give us value and a first year starter. Alternatively, maybe we gamble that he is on the board at 45 as OGs tend to fall in the draft. Alternatively, maybe our move will be to try and get Brooks in the 3rd. One could argue the move to bring in Bernadeau could seal up one spot. Meanwhile Nagy, Arkin and Kowalski can compete for the other spot. Then the 3rd spot will go to the loser of that battle and the new draftee.

It seems as though the FO is carrying through with plans to build a mobile OL that will play in space full of youngish guys. After all, we apparently showed no interest in Nicks (4.68/7.91) or Grubbs (4.72/7.70) but I wonder if we eventually give Evan Mathis a call (4.16/7.39) to close out our FA.
