Just wondering about the possibilities for signing Kreutz at center. Bring in some nasy and leadership for our young guys. Move Gurode back to guard.
I'm thinking of a line with Smith, Kosier, Kreutz, Gurode, Free. Thouhgts?

Maybe Gurode has learned something, but he was pretty bad his first time playing OG in the NFL - so bad Bill Parcells said after one season the Gurode would never play OG for him again.

Im wondering if Olin can play guard and mentor young Smith and help call plays at the line. I know its nothing long term but just maybe.....

Yeah - PASS! If there was an OL last year more horrible than ours it was the Bears, and they just cut Cruetz. Their playoff run was a fluke last year and the fact that Roy Williams, Sam Hurd and Marion Barber are considered upgrades for them is proof.

The only thing you got right was that Kreutz is a junkyard dog. But he is a junkyard dog who has high football IQ and is very respected by his OL.

6'3 300 lbs is not undersized for a center. That is the prototypical size actually. His strength and tenacity makes him play even bigger.

And Lovie Smith WANTED to re-sign Kreutz. So did Martz, and Tice. It was Angelo who lowballed Kreutz.

By the way, Kreutz is ONE year older than Gurode. A one year contract, like the Bears were offering, makes just too much sense. Especially if Cowboys are in win NOW mode.

This post at least made me consider.

Would be a great move......Move Gurode to RG. He is a mean dude and we need some of that on this team. Freakin' team is too soft! I would be ecstatic.

Kreutz is apparently a huge leader in locker room and well liked. He's a hard worker, etc. For God's sake this team needs some experienced veteran depth on the oline. He'd be a good backup for Centre. Can he play Guard though?

Gurode is hurt and OVERWEIGHT.

I'd love a 1-2 year insurance policy.

Just haven't seen him play much in last few years. He was considered a stud a couple years back though.

Kreutz is TWO years older than Gurode.

Gurode 3/6/1979 32yrs
Kruetz 6/9/1977 34yrs

Brian Waters would be a better fit.

why would he want to do that? He's going to play C somewhere and make like 4 mill doing it.

Kreutz reportedly is retiring.

That about sums up this offseason, folks on here putting Randy Moss and Kreutz on their wish lists out of sheer desperation.

If we were trying to field the best darn AARP team, these two would be solid additions.

Putting Moss and Kruetz in the same boat is wrongheaded. Kreutz is a solid team leader and a high character guy. No one has ever said that about Moss.

But my point is, we're scanning the FA wire for somebody, ANYBODY, to help our team. The fact that these guys are looking at their options and believe that going home and sitting on their couches is the best one at this point tells you how much of a market is out there for them...

...and tells you just how desperate a lot of Cowboys fans really are, despite the positive spin a lot are putting on this team's chances.

Kreutz can still help a team -- I doubt he retires -- the SF media is all over him being offered a deal with the 49ers.

Honestly, he is the sort of guy that is a great fit for a team that needed a C for a year or two while developing a young guy.

FA doesn't always have to be about the big name guys -- sometimes it can and should be about getting a quality guy who can be a bridge to the future.

I admit that I didn't watch Kreutz a lot, but I never heard anything about him playing poorly last year.

So, I don't think it is "desperation" to say that he could help the team for a year or two, especially as a leader and a mentor to our young oline picks.

If his body is shot, then that is one thing - another Columbo situation.

BUT, if Gurode or Holland or Kosier go down, this team is SCREWED on oline. God forbid Free or T Smith (who has had what, 4 practices) go down.

This team is DESPERATE for a decent oline depth guy, if you ask me, OR, the coaches and front office are willing to admit to themselves this is a rebuild type year, where Romo could get killed again.

I have just heard a ton of good thinks about Kreutz, and if I was Jerry I'd call him and talk to him! But this is based on not knowing much about his medical situation and level of play last year.

Straight up question though. If relatively healthy, who would you rather have as back up centre say game 3 if Gurode is still out, is out of shape, or knee is still wonky? Kreutz or Costa (and I think Costa has some upside, don't get me wrong). I think you'd go vet first no?

Moot point if his body is done or he has no fire to play any more. Maybe he hasn't even trained in offseason, have no idea.
