I started this thread as review of players but it's difficult to not look at the cut to 53 issues also.

I'm not going to review Tyron, Martin or La'el.

Biadasz:
- Starting OC.
- Fundamentally sound player.
- He'll never be Travis Frederick but neither will most OCs in the NFL.

McGovern:
- The top backup OG.

Nsekhe:
- Probably the Swing Tackle.

Connor Williams:
- Starting LG and top backup OC (Yes, I know emotion fans won't like it)
- McGovern would come in at LG if CW plays OC.
- Much better player than many fans believe.
- Terrific awareness and terrific at picking up and handing off blitzing/stunting pass rushers.
- Terrific foot quickness. Has fared better than most against Aaron Donald.
- Oddly has been better against Donald than against some no-name but massive DTs.

Matt Farniok:
- Appears to be the 3rd OC. Looked better than expected in the preseason at both OG/OC.
- Technique/Awareness very good for a rookie.

Knight:
- They can win games with Knight playing OT or OG.
- It might be ugly, but he can be "good enough".

Steele:
- Yes, I know emotional fans hate him.
- 2020 better in some games than Knight. Flashed upside.
- 2020 much worse in some games than Knight.

Alarcon: Not ready.
- Maybe higher upside than some others but they're all ahead of him in terms of playing in 2021.

Josh Ball: Injured.

They'll likely keep 10 or 11 on day 1 of the cut to 53 then move Ball to IR.

Agree with a lot. I'm hoping someone beats out Nsekhe for the swing tackle spot but don't think it will happen bu the start of the season. My guy for that spot is Ball when back who i agree will be on the initial 53 and moved to IR
Steele was horrible last year. Not bad, but horrible. I'm excited to see Biadasz after a full offseason and think the two Connors are about even. If it were my call I'd start McGovern. I think he showed more potential. Williams has had a ton of snaps and I think we know who he is and it's a little below what you describe but not nearly the poor player many make him out to be. I also don't see him being the backup Center. I think that is something we wanted to try but not something we will do. Maybe emergency guy.

Nice writeup

love getting the passive aggressive 'emotional fans won't like it' comment in up front to try and head off any disagreement
If people study game footage of players and then disagree with me that can make for a good discussion.

The problem is that knee-jerk emotional "fans" love to post as many times as possible about how much certain players suck.
- I'm certain that the vast majority of those posters have not reviewed the players.

Prove it

He put the evidence in a safe deposit box and gave me the key, knowing I wouldn't care to look at it and to keep it from narcs like tu.

I charge, but he pays in bit-'quila.

I'm a happy camper.

He asked me to prove something, I PMed him the info and he didn't take the time to respond. I can't stand people like that. Oh well, we can't all be honorable men....

i love terrence steele.
kid came in off the streets last year and earned his spot.
helluva story.
may never be an all-pro...but i think he'll be a very good player.
love what he's made of.
should be a fan favorite...easy to root for a kid like that.

I actually think he is better than most fans think, especially considering he was a UDFA last year. Didn't give up a pressure last week.

Williams is intelligent and plays with technique. He’s good against speed players but my two issues is he just isn’t as strong as I’d prefer a guard to be. He is just so clearly a technique driven OT who will have a light anchor as a guard. It affects him in pass blocking.

He’s ok in run blocking - again, not going to win too many strength contests. Only big issue I have there is I feel like he gets on the ground too often.

I wish they would train Isaac Alacorn more for the swing tackle position. We have several players that can fit the guard position quite nicely. Isaac has good size and height for the tackle position. He doesn't fit well for a guard.

Connor is plenty strong enough. His biggest problem is attitude. He has lacked a nastiness to his game that allowed some DTs to bully him. Last year against Pitt, Heyward was getting away with putting a hand under the chin throughout the game. Connor should have retaliated but didn't. He just took it. If he wants to be among the best Gs, he needs to get mean.

I agree. He has the strength just not the attitude. Guards are rather unique in that way; the best ones always looked while playing like they would tear the DT's head off and spit down the neck.

Nice summary @xwalker.

Always thought CW played better than most people thought. Unfortunately, I suspect he may be gone next year.

Looking at all the replies goes to show you how beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And we all have opinions. The starters are fine, the backups especially a couple of them, i think you know who they are... are just plain trash. That's all i can say about that.

Don’t lose that key. I’ve been told my future social security is in that same lockbox

There are certain players that fans love to hate that are actually really good players.

There are certain players that fans love to hype that are actually not that good.

Comparing CW playing LG vs when La'ell played LG during early in his career.
- Fans loved La'el because he had a few highlight plays of blowing up defensive players.
- What fans overlooked was that he made a huge number of mistakes per game, especially in the running game where he would block the wrong player.
- Fans love to hate Connor Williams because on 1 or 2 snaps per game he has a really ugly play.
- Fan overlook the fact that CW is very good on the vast majority of plays.
- He is a precise 2nd level blocker and has great awareness of picking up and passing blitzing/stunting pass rushers.
