Let's play a game. Let's have some off season fun by giving points to the most important players on a scale of 1-10. Or rather let's play where the most important or crucial players this team has, from 1-10. It should look something like, but not exactly as follows. Using my demonstration, you should get the idea.
10 Points -- Romo - Captain of the team, leader of the ship. Without the shifty, savvy and accurate Romo, the Cowboys are still a marginal team. He puts them over the team and is the catalyst of the Dallas Cowboys
9 Points -- I can see where someone may choose Demarcus Ware. However, without Witten I don't think this team has much spunk.
8 Points -- Demarcus Ware has the goods here. He provides exactly what every team wants: a quick, speedy, consistent pass rush. Nobody in the league brings it like Demarcus Ware. Teams have to account for that every time they play us--or risk losing.
7 Points -- Miles Austin makes big plays. He's been the go to guy in the passing game. A team with such emphasis on passing, in a league full of passing teams, needs a big-play threat like the one provided by Miles Austin. One of the leagues top-performers has caught up to the top-five pack of receivers in the game of football, and can be mentioned amongst the best in the league.
6 Points -- Mike Jenkins. Jenkins has been all that we hoped for--and then some.
5 Points - Terrence Newman. Newman hasn't been perfect. But he doesn't need to be. He just needs to be in position to make plays on the ball and give up as few yards as possible. Solidifies the defense. Easily a top 10 corner in the league.
4 Points - Anthony Spencer. Spencer has really beefed up the defensive line. It's not easy for teams to run to one side of the field against the Cowboys. When avoiding Ware, teams also have to account for Specner, who really turned it on as a play maker for the Cowboys.
3 Points -- Jay Ratliff. Boy, was this a diamond in the ruff. The seventh-round pick put Dallas in position to really dominate using the 3-4 defense. If this guy stays healthy, as does the rest of the d-line, this defense is going places in '10.
2 Points -- Brady James. Brady a silent but important contributor to this defense. Not only is he consistent; he's also persistent. Which is part of his act that makes him a good player. That, and he's a tough competitor who adds spark to the Cowboy's defense.
1 Gerald Senabaugh. People rag on his defensive abilities, but there is nothing to rag on as to why we DOMINATED the Eagles offense, 3 games in a row. This was no coincidence. The reason is Gerald Sensabaugh is not only an exciting player for the Cowboy, but from my recollection (and my recollection seems to be fit) is that he whooped up on the Eagles. And he matches up against our division rivals really well.
I've ran out of points, as I had a hard time ordering players with only the given number of points. But it was fun to see how the team broke down when I started using a point system for the most crucial player.
I know it's the off season, but I had fun with it and would look forward to arguments and analysis'. Go Cowboys!
