Smith is strong, we all knew… but he is stronger than I thought. And not by a little… by a lot. As a very young guy in his first game ever, he displayed more power than I thought I’d ever see a rookie show. It is incredible to see a 21 year old doing this week 1 of the season at a position he didn’t even practice at all through training camp.

He will be much stronger in year two, particularly since he’s coming from a small school like Tulsa. A year in an NFL training room, eating at their training table will do wonders for him… but wow, what will he be like then, because he’s doing things now that few can do.

Having worked at a meat-head gym all through college, I figured out that some guys are just strong for their size. Country strong, if you will. Some big guys can’t push nearly as much weight as you’d expect, and some little guys can do way more than you thought. What we have in Smith is a guy who is strong for his size. The difference for him is that he’s also a huge man with rare athleticism.

I guess when you have that combination, this is what you get:

And one of those tweets is from Geoff Schwartz, ex NFL OL. He just laughs at what Smith does to a guy, and says “Power. Finish. He just loads up and throws him”.

Anyway, Tyler just keeps surprising me… in a great way. We were lucky to get him.

Again his technique looks to lend itself to being vulnerable to the bull rush. But nope most guys he stops dead in their tracks and as Asthma points out that is just sheer strength. Barrett was a good test by the way. I really think a good O Line coach could clean him up to a very high level.

Get outta here with you positive stuff!!!
Lol, I've seen country strong and weight room strong. Put them together and you have a winner! He looked good

I remember all the lamentation but some CZ members about how Jerry “failed to plan for Tyron’s inevitable injury” and how it was so predictable. Why didn’t Jerry do ANYTHING to plan for that. Yeah. Good times.

A week later, Jerry seems like he (or his minions) knew a little bit more than some thought they did. Jerry and Co miss often enough and make some poor roster and cap decisions—-but this does not appear to be one of them.

Exactly.

And now those same people are burying everyone and everything (except Micah lol) about this team after 1 week.

They never learn.

Yea, he definitely surprised me in a good way. Might have our next LT now and not maybe in the future.

This week he'll go up against Hendrickson who is another good pass rusher.

Me as well, he put all my fears to rest to be quite honest.
Hardline here already said it but credit where credit is due.

The last 4 Cowboy o linemen drafted in the first round have all been home runs.

Great job Tyler and keep up the great work young man.

We need ya.

Still needs to fix burst out of stance and footwork.

Tyler is already physically capable of playing LT in NFL.

It's the mental stuff and technique that will take him to next level.

Play him at LG this season and let Peters mentor him at LT. Otherwise Philbin will hinder his progress like he did CW and even to certain extent, Lael.

The biggest question regarding Tyler was all about learning technique. Once we heard him speak, we knew right away that he had the want to be great. He is now getting real coaching and you can already see him improving. He is only going to get better with more experience. XWalker compared his strength to Larry Allen when we had our draft discussions, it's a fair comparison in that area. He was throwing lineman around, with zero technique on the college level. Give him the proper hand placement, footwork, he is going to move people.
