Smith is strong, we all knew… but he is stronger than I thought. And not by a little… by a lot. As a very young guy in his first game ever, he displayed more power than I thought I’d ever see a rookie show. It is incredible to see a 21 year old doing this week 1 of the season at a position he didn’t even practice at all through training camp.

He will be much stronger in year two, particularly since he’s coming from a small school like Tulsa. A year in an NFL training room, eating at their training table will do wonders for him… but wow, what will he be like then, because he’s doing things now that few can do.

Having worked at a meat-head gym all through college, I figured out that some guys are just strong for their size. Country strong, if you will. Some big guys can’t push nearly as much weight as you’d expect, and some little guys can do way more than you thought. What we have in Smith is a guy who is strong for his size. The difference for him is that he’s also a huge man with rare athleticism.

I guess when you have that combination, this is what you get:

And one of those tweets is from Geoff Schwartz, ex NFL OL. He just laughs at what Smith does to a guy, and says “Power. Finish. He just loads up and throws him”.

Anyway, Tyler just keeps surprising me… in a great way. We were lucky to get him.

Of all the negativity that happened with the game Tyler kind of flew under the radar. His play was exciting and he is going to be the first building block of rebuilding that offensive line.

I remember all the lamentation but some CZ members about how Jerry “failed to plan for Tyron’s inevitable injury” and how it was so predictable. Why didn’t Jerry do ANYTHING to plan for that. Yeah. Good times.

A week later, Jerry seems like he (or his minions) knew a little bit more than some thought they did. Jerry and Co miss often enough and make some poor roster and cap decisions—-but this does not appear to be one of them.
I’m going to go with minions…

The biggest question regarding Tyler was all about learning technique. Once we heard him speak, we knew right away that he had the want to be great. He is now getting real coaching and you can already see him improving. He is only going to get better with more experience. XWalker compared his strength to Larry Allen when we had our draft discussions, it's a fair comparison in that area. He was throwing lineman around, with zero technique on the college level. Give him the proper hand placement, footwork, he is going to move people.

Even when playing too high or sloppy hand work, he gets away with it and still dominates because he is so dang powerful.

All the Tyler doubters are now fans.

You all know who you are.

Usually you see what players make a big jump with their strength after yr 1 when they work with a strength coach, he can even get stronger considering he is just 21

I don't know if anyone said he couldn't do it, but I'm one who didn't know whether he could or not. Happy he gave me the answer!

What a great pick. Very smart kid who is a really good player and a ton of room to improve. Not a common combination.

Had he gone to Wisconsin, Alabama, or some big school like that, he’d have been taken very early in the draft.

Same here. Thought the best move would have been to let him stay at guard but the situation dictated he move outside little earlier than expected.
Still think maybe him at guard and Peters at LT may be the best plan, it's still reassuring to know the kid can more than hold his own at one of the most challenging positions in football.
The kid can ball. Just a little raw right now.

I agree Tyler did very well for this first game at LT.... his guy did have some pressures on Dak and actually caused his thumb injury.., but all in all, was a good game. I feel Dallas should slide Peters into LG and move Farniock to C.....and hope Steele can pull his head out of his arse and play better. You might have at least a good OL there by season's end.

Honestly, if he has a repeat performance on Sunday, I think he's better at LT than Peters would be.

Yep you may be right the more I think on it. Since there is a decent chance they might not win many games anyway, he can use this year as his developmental starting point at a position we all hope he keeps for a decade or more.
Just get a little better with each game.

Yep, you're right.

Not sure where Peters exactly fits in now though, lol.
