Do you think it was perhaps a calculated move by Norv to attempt to take Rivera out of the running as HC by saying he wanted him as DC?

Maybe he felt Jones would feel bad about interviewing Rivera after Norv mentioned he wanted him on his staff...

Just something I've wondered about. I think Norv is desperate for this job...

It was kind of strange, has he ever worked with Rivera or did he just throw that name out there?

Maybe he should cover all his bases and tell Jerry he would want Jim Caldwell as his OC.

I think it had to do more with watching the Bears go up 41-0 on the Niners at halftime when they played. ;)

That's interesting. I was thinking just the opposite ... that Norv isn't so sure that he wants to uproot his family to work with Jerry (especially under the Switzer, Gailey, Campo arrangement).

very possible,I think there have been so many reports lately you just dont know what to believe. I also wonder if there is any truth to JJ getting flack about Turners 2 failed coaching stints. I think Norv may be sweating right now. I am happy that JJ realizes this is something he shouldn't rush into, and the fact he said he doesn't want to leave any stone unturned.

yeah...Mort mentioned that Norv wasnt dying to just automatically want the job...mentioned uprooting his family would be a hardship...and he liked San Fran etc...

Well Norv's brother Ron works with Ron in Chicago, and supposebly when Rivera was up for some of the coaching gigs last year , he contacted Norv Turner to be his OC when Norv was still unemployed after being fired by the Oakland Raiders.

That's a lateral move.
Why would Ron Rivera do that?
Why would the Bears allow that?
Not happening.

his contract is up after the super bowl. so why wouldnt Rivera be looking around? can the bears still block him without a contract?

They can block him from going anywhere else as a DC for up to 3 weeks after their season is over, so they have time to negotiate, They will probally give him the shot to go around becuase they arent going to give him the kind of money that he knows that he can get elsewhere.

Norv has a job and makes good money...no reason for him to be "desperate for this job"

the fwst tonight says Turner would have been Rivera's OC had he been hired in GB last yr...Turner is also very familar with RR because Ron Turner works for the Bears

Do you have a link to a article stating they can block him for 3 weeks???

I may be wrong but, everything I have read says right after the SuperBowl.

I really think it's more a case of Norv remembering bitterly his experience in Oakland, where he really didn't have the authority a head coach is supposed to have...

Indeed, so long as Al Davis is doing the hiring, no head coach for the Raiders will ever have the respect of the locker room...
