On Norv wanting Rivera as DC...

I think it would be a real bad idea for the Cowboys to hire Rivera as DC; because even if he does an average job with this defense he is going to get looks as a head coach next year. It doesn't make sense to bring in a guy change the scheme and then he leaves.

Either hire him as the head coach or don't hire him at all.

I really think it's more a case of Norv remembering bitterly his experience in Oakland, where he really didn't have the authority a head coach is supposed to have...

Indeed, so long as Al Davis is doing the hiring, no head coach for the Raiders will ever have the respect of the locker room...

I don't think he would get it here either. If Jones feels Parcells way didn't work he very well could revert to "his" way being better. I don't think he will because he offered Bill an extension. But I still say if it's Norv Jones will make all the decisions.

Do you think it was perhaps a calculated move by Norv to attempt to take Rivera out of the running as HC by saying he wanted him as DC?

Maybe he felt Jones would feel bad about interviewing Rivera after Norv mentioned he wanted him on his staff...

Just something I've wondered about. I think Norv is desperate for this job...

It looks like it was a non-calculated move by Norv to take himself out of the running..:lmao2:

He should have known if Jerra had a chance to interview the Singletaries and Riveras of the world his chances of being our next HC would go into the toilet. :)

And people WANT him as a HC.:lmao:

I just laughed myself silly when I read that quote by Norv. He has a lot of nerve saying he would love to have Rivera as his DC. Rivera is his freaking competition. And why the heck would he come here to be a DC when he has a fine job with the Bears and has a better chance of competing for another Superbowl appearance and improving his head coach chances for next year. Do you think Rivera is going to come here and work with lesser talent which would obviously hurt his chances at a head coaching job....OR do you think he is going to stay in Chicago in which he has a plethora of talent and a great relationship with his players. Even if the Bears don't have the same won/loss record, it's likely their defense will still one of the best in the NFL and thus some team will hire next year. He is not going to be stupid and throw that away to be the DC for the Cowboys. Plus the man has pride. Why would he do a lateral move when he obviously wants a head coaching position.

Also, I laughed when Norv made stipulations. Again, he is lucky to even be considered. He really hasn't had any major success outside the Cowboys organization to warrant his being the head coach of Americas Team. Hey Norv, beggars can't be choosers!

Do you have a link to a article stating they can block him for 3 weeks???

I may be wrong but, everything I have read says right after the SuperBowl.

It's true, if Chicago chooses to deny us permission, they have three weeks to attempt to re-sign him...

Lets see - If Norv wants to take himself out of the running he goes back to SF and renegotiates his contract for more money and tells Jerry he is not interested. He does not make silly request so that he will not be considered anymore. That is ludicrous. He just comes out and says "I don't think this is the right situation for me" and takes his own name out of the running.

These convaluded theories are mind boggling.
