Have been down on Barber since before last season started just thought the Barber rule would change his game. Later the injury made it a moot point. Loved the Choice pick, and loved his play both last and this season. Have been pulling what's left of my hair out on his lack of playing time.

However, saw one play today that made me think maybe Garrett isn't the souless Ginger I thought he was. Barber got subbed in on a pass play and had a great block on a blitzer up the middle. Thought Choice had been blocking ok but hadn't focused on it. Is it the case that Barber is a world class blocker and Choice is avg. Or Barber is ok/good and Choice is poor? Does anyone think Garrett is playing Barber to help the passing game rather than the run? Does Choice expose Romo that much on blitzes?

Good question. I think Choice is an exceptional RB who finds creases and explodes through them. Pass blocking will come with experience. Remember, Tashard only gets a handful of plays. In time the blocking will come. He's too good not to be an all-around RB.

That's exactly the case. Barber is one of, if not THEE best pickup blitz RB's in the league. I think that's what is going on. Choice is rather poor on the pickups which leads to Romo getting killed.

What Barber does in the pass protection phase of the game is irreplacable and extremely underrated.

You nailed it, Barber is a stud on the blitz pickup.

Choice???............not so much.

I've noticed a couple of plays in previous games that Choice appeared to miss pass blocking assignments.

With Choice obvously running better than Barber yesterday, my guess is that Barber's appearances late in the game had to do with his better pass protection skills.

IMO, a healthy Barber beats a healthy Choice all the time. That's no hate on Choice. I just feel that Barber and Felix are special backs. Choice will get you the yards that are there to get - he'll rarely lose yardage, he's so consistent. But Barber and Felix get you the yards that you didn't think were there with great individual plays and efforts.

"Slate" is 100% on here. I see Choice get in position to make the block but he's smaller and gets blown up: very difficult to block an NFL LB or Safety when you are Choice's size. That's how I see it anyway..........

Choice has what Emmitt had: great vision, super quickness through the hole and cutback ability as well. As good as Emmitt? Of course not, but he has similar skills IMO.........

:hammer:Do you remember when people were calling for Reshard Lee to get some tick? It was the same thing, he showed flashes of being a better runner than what we had on the team, but he could not/would not pick up a block to save his life...or the qb's life rather.

Interesting. There was an article or blog entry talking about how Choice had become the third down back because of his blocking. Choice talked about his college coach telling him what sets RB's apart in the pros is the ability to pass block, so he made an effort to learn to do it.

Barber doesn't just engage LBs like some backs, he is vicious man. He is ...a Barbarian. :D

Seems to go unnoticed around here but maybe a good thread to add; Cricket is such a ****ing bulldog! I love that guy's fight in the game. :laugh2:
