Bill Haley and the Comets recorded "Rock Around the Clock", which many consider to be the song that ushered in the "Rock and Roll" era.
The song was actually the B-side of "13 Women" which as the A-side sold luke-warm.
Peter Ford, the son of actor Glenn Ford, listened to the B-side one day, loved it, let his father listen to it (who also happened to be starring in the new film "Blackboard Jungle") and soon "Rock Around the Clock" was chosen to play over the opening credits of "Blackboard Jungle" which was a hit with teenagers.
The rest is history.
