On This Day Today in 1975, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach popularized the term "Hail Mary

After the Minn game about a day later my Dad told me he got tickets to the SB. However Dallas was still 1 game away and would be playing the LA , Cowboys went into the game as heavy underdog so we had to watch that game before we knew if Dallas would be in the SB or not. Thankfully the pressure of winning was over pretty quick as Dallas demolished the Rams.

In my most famous Cowboys "Where were you moment..."
At my aunt's house in Mobile, AL. As a yougin' the previous year this team had kinda captivated me with the coach with the fedora, Roger, and that star on the helmet.
This game cemented my fandom forever.

Thanks, was it due to complications from the Head injury?
I really thought I heard this.
Maybe a urban legend?
Anyway glad to be wrong about this.

The ref's name was Armen Terzian. He officiated the Super Bowl the following year when the Vikings got crushed by the Raiders. I can only imagine what Vikings message boards would've been like after both games (had they existed, of course), with that official involved in both of them. :muttley:

Would have been brutal I am sure.
Aren't we glad for the internet?

I watched that game as it happened and remember seeing that orange flying into the picture from a fan in the stands. I thought it was a flag at first. That orange being tossed had to do with the Super Bowl being in the Orange bowl that year..

There was no push off whatsoever on that play. Watched it a million times. Vikings fans are full of it.
Nope. Some of the things that made Drew special were hands, body control, and ability to track the ball. All of which were on display during that play.

Looking back there’s probably some Vikings fans that are glad they lost that game because had they made it to the Super Bowl they would’ve ended up with a record 5 Super Bowl losses.

One of the more interesting Super Bowl matchups would be the Vikings versus the Bills. They’re 0-8 in Super Bowls and one of them would finally win a championship.

I was watching the game at a cousin's house in the TV room as there was no television in the sitting room, as she called it. Everyone else was in the other room. My brother kept sticking his head in to tease me because the Cowboys were losing (pretty rich coming from a Browns fan). When Pearson made the catch I was flipping out so much my mom came in to check on me.

I was 10 years old.

They'll say anything. The ref was right there parallel to the play. Had he seen Drew's arms extended, he would have called it. The problem is most of these people making comments either didn't watch the game, or conveniently forgot it was one of the muddiest games I've ever seen. Players were slipping all over the place. All game long. Which makes that 4th and 17 a few plays prior to that, that much more amazing.

BTW, if you watch the end of the 4th and 17 conversion, a security guard walks over and kicks Pearson after the catch.

One of them will also be the first to lose their first 5 Super Bowls.

Just nitpicking here, but the Vikings have an NFL championship. For the first 4 SBs the NFL champion met the AFL champion. It's not a SB, but they won the same NFL championship any other team won prior to that.

The Bills also won 2 AFL titles. They were the last AFL titles before the SB era began.

I was out on a deer lease hunting with my dad. It was more of I liked being with my dad than wanting to shoot a beautiful deer. I was listening to the game on the radio and everyone else was asleep. I yelled when Staubach threw the touchdown and everyone in the tent jumped up yelling What, What!!!! Kind of funny. I was only 14 at the time. :laugh:Still haven't shot a deer to this day.....nor would I.

LOL I used to do a similar thing. I would go on hunting trips with friends just for the camping, beer, and what not. I even brought a firearm. I just didn't shoot anything. I have zero problem with hunters, I just can't do it.

Had it not been just before the merger it would’ve been a conference championship. They went on to lose the Super Bowl that season. I’m sure that 1969 championship doesn’t make Vikings fans feel any better.

They call that a back shoulder play nowadays, Wright just got juked because ball was underthrown.

Watched at my grandmas house with Dad and cousins, my grandma had her hands over ears after the big 1st down reception by Drew, it got louder after the Hail Mary.....such an exciting franchise back then.
