Plan on releasing my final Cowboys and NFL mock in 2 weeks. Just working on some final tweaks and wanted to share where I'm at on the Cowboys.

As always, have fun ripping me a new one.

*Trade down with Lions in First. Cowboys pick up #13 in Round 1 and #75 in Round 3*

Round 1, Pick 13: Anthony Castonzo | OT | Boston College

Round 2, Pick 40: Rahim Moore | S | UCLA

Round 3, Pick 71: Will Rackley | OG | Lehigh

Round 3, Pick 75: Kenrick Ellis | DL | Hampton

Round 4, Pick 110: Kelvin Sheppard | ILB | LSU

Round 5, Pick 143: DeMarcus Van Dyke | CB | Miami (FL)

Round 6, Pick 176: Andre Holmes | WR | Hillsdale

Round 7, Pick 220: Greg McElroy | QB | Alabama

Round 7, Pick 252: Stevan Ridley | RB | LSU

I still believe when the Cowboys trade down in the 1st they will use that pick obtained to move up back into the first or up in the 2nd but I'm working on those scenario's still.

I'm starting to think (just a hunch) that Castonzo will be our pick after trading down

It's been gnawing at me for a while. Every time I talk to someone or work on Cowboys draft related stuff I keep coming back to him and getting the feeling he is the silent choice in Dallas.

I remember back in February and March, talking to people and being told he was the early favorite in Dallas and to keep an eye on him.

I'm just not sold that he can go from someone they really like and one of the favorite prospects to falling out favor so much that all he gets is a visit and a thank you.

Seems like a well played card by the Cowboys.

I love the idea of trading back up into the first. Who did you have in mind? I'm hoping Pouncey drops.

Pouncey is a good option but I think his value is starting to settle in the 20-25 range and I'm not sure the Cowboys can get up that far.

I know Aarons Williams is a hot name around Dallas right now and Danny Watkins could be a good option. Dallas also may want to get in on the late run of DE's that you could see at the end of Round 1.

The other option if they fail to land a OT with the first pick would be trade back up and look at either Sherrod, Solder or Ijalana.

A third rounder should be enough to jump from 40 to 22-25

LOL

If you and I both do mocks with Castonzo in the first people are going to wig man.

:D

Errr. Ok. I think he is solid. I just like Carimi better.

Trading down and getting Castonzo is not a bad option.

You could stay at #9, and get Tyron Smith. But if you have the two of them rated about the same, why not trade down and get an extra pick?

True..

I'm guessing they are in love with Castonzos ability to play 4 positions too.

I've heard Castanzo give Colombo a lot of props too in interviews.

Boston College ties apparently.

Gotta trust that they have targeted who they feel is the top Tackle in this years draft. #9 Might be too high for that tackle, and they can trade down to obtain more picks.

The more picks, the more ammunition you have to maneuver around the draft.

Yeah I'm 80% ok with Castanzo.

I like it and I think the Aaron Williams thing could be where they look if they trade back into the 1st. I want to watch that NFL network special on him and Prince Tuesday.

I couldn't find a trade partner to get back into the 1st and I'm thinking you are gonna have some teams moving into that area looking for QB's. They might pay more than I want to pay.

NE will want picks next yr to slide and I have no interest in that. Who else moves around alot? We need to get a list of guys who like to trade.

Philly, NE, Dallas, Cleveland in the past, San Diego has moved around in the past.

Just not the sexy name folks are looking for with a #9 pick.... But with a trade down, you would have to look at the whole draft.. And that takes a couple years to see how it played out.

I would take Williams over Prince.

I can't believe Aaron Williams isn't a little more touted than what he is.

He played on an underachieving team with a terrible secondary, that won't help your draft hype.

Yep. I like Curtis Brown too. That guy has a ton of ability.

Nothin wrong with Castonzo, would be a good pick.

The 1st 4 picks are right on for me

We've done so many stupid things on draft day.

If we have Smith rated higher, then I think we need to take him if he's there. I'd hate to see us play around again, and gamble on a lower rated player. That's how we wind up with Robert Brewsters instead of Max Ungers.

Of course, if we don't have Smith rated in the top ten, then I can understand why we wouldn't want to reach at nine. Or, if Smith and Costanzo are rated closely, then that's understandable too.

I just want us to finally play a draft smart. It's been years since we've really "won" a draft....by that I mean have most of the players pan out into good players.

Ideally, we get the player we target and more draft picks.

It really does depend on where they have the guys ranked.

I think we won last year, we went and got Dez and then went and got Lee, who we had graded as a 1st rounder. Neither one did much to help our terrible year, but they went and got the guys they wanted.

I much prefer that approach to trading down for the sake of trading down.
