One of the biggest failings of the offense this year was the inability to score on the opening drive.
Last year, they were pretty successful at doing so, with many times scoring a TD and setting the tone for the rest of the game.
This year, they were woeful at it. Too numerous they were three and out.
The Cowboys are known for preferring to receive the opening kickoff and wanting to set that tone and have the opponent playing catch up.
Having an offense predicated on running the ball and shortening the game, it is vital that the team score because the eating of the clock results in fewer possessions. Failing to do so gives the opponents an advantage because they will receive the ball in the 2nd half.
