Free Agent moves: Dallas signs S Michael Huff and LB Justin Durant

#18 overall: Jonathan Cooper, G/C, North Carolina

An instant starter at either guard spot. Will allow Bernadeau to compete with Costa at center.

#47 overall: Kawann Short, DT, Purdue

We'll need a starter inside if Hatcher AND Ratliff are gone in 2014.

#80 overall: Andre Ellington, RB, Clemson

Explosive back who can carry the load if Murray gets hurt.

#114 overall: Sean Porter, LB, Texas A&M

Will mainly be a special teams player as a rookie, but he could eventually compete at the SAM LB spot in the future.

#151 overall: J.J. Wilcox, S, Georgia Southern

An underrated prospect will could land a roster spot.

#185 overall: Michael Williams, TE, Alabama

The prototypical tight end with size and blocking ability.

Thoughts?

I like it. Particularly the first two picks. I think Short and Cooper would be walk-in starters (or walk-in contributor in Short's case) and would help the team immensely.

I like Short probably more than most here and don't think he has any real motor issues. I feel like it was more a case of him playing excessive snaps and wearing out. In a rotation he would be very good IMO. In the second he would be a gift.

Love it.
I would prefer to take a safety in the thrird (if we have one graded there) and a RB later, but beggars can't be choosy.
The players look great.
Of course, almost no way Short is there at 47. He's been rising into the late 1st round by some lately.

I think I'm ready for another draft game where someone finds a ranking sheet and we draft using that sheet. Then there's some guidlines on who is draftable at each slot. You really took two 1st rounders in this draft ....love it though.

Excellent! A few backs I like over Ellington, but I certainly wouldn't turn my nose up at him.

There's definitely a possibility that Short will not be there for our pick in the 2nd round. Maybe a Jesse Williams from Alabama is available? He wouldn't be a bad consolation price!

Thanks for the comments and opinions, guys.

You never know. Somebody has to drop.
McShay's latest mock has Short going 29th.
I've seen Jesse Willimas going nt he late 1st a lot too.
But not everybody can get stuffed into the the 1st round. It'd be shocking if they made it another 15 picks into the 2nd, but we've seen it happen before.

Yeah, sometimes people have to remember how big these guys are, and what they're asked to do. I have no problem with a DT taking a few plays off. It is to be expected.

Having said that, I don't know specifically about Short.

This would be a pretty great draft IF we sign huff.. If not I think you gotta go safety earlier

I don't want Ellington. He had problems staying healthy at Clemson. He is much faster than he ran at the combine if I remember that correctly.

Really like Montee Ball also.

If we can't get Short or Williams in the 2nd, I'm very high on Bennie Logan. He has serious pass-rushing ability as a DT and is solid against the run. He actually reminds me of a young Ratliff.

Agreed, I've actually been thinking of that comparison myself.

He's known as a very hard-worker as well--hence the #18.

I can only dream of Cooper in the 1st and SHort in the 2nd Round. I love what both would bring and I HAVE NO ISSUES with Short. I personally think he reminds me of Warren Sapp at Miami. He'll be solid in the middle with Spencer and Ware outside. Cooper walks in and starts from Day 1. The only thing that would make me happier is taking either the top Safety or Center on the boards in rounds 3 and 4 than possibly in Round 5 go RB.
