One of the best CB tandems in history?

Could you imagine Newman and Champ in the same secondary!!!!

Talk about shut down.

In 1971, Dallas had Hall of Famer Herb Adderly and Hall of Famer Mel Renfro on the corners with Cornell Green and Cliff Harris as the safeties.

Granted Adderly went into the Hall as a Packer, but still gave the Cowboys two excellent seasons.

So....

Renfro and Adderly (1971-1972)
Sanders and Smith (1995-1999)
Kyle and Barnes (1977-1979)
Renfro and Washington (Mark) (1975)
Walls and Barnes (1981-1982)
Smith and Brown (1992-1994)
McNeil and Sparks (DOH 2000)
Brown and Holt (1991)
Renfro and Green (1968-1969)
Newman and Henry (2005-Present)

Of course, this is in no particular order. Just something to consider.

People forget that Champ was never going to play another down for the Skins. They were making the best of a bad situation.

Stop being a homer. So because Champ didnt want to be here we had to go and get hosed in a deal? Lance Briggs wanted out of Chicago and they still almost hosed us! It was a terrible trade, stop trying to make excuses for it.

Skinsfunguy,

You misspelled the pulural of fungus. It should read skinsfungi. j/k

You have added some excellent posts to this afternoon's dicussions. Thanks.

I'm so disappointed with Theogt.. Normally, this cat is arguing with everything, and now we need him the most, where is he? ;)

Isn't Quentin Jammer a FA after the season? He has really come on after a slow start to his career. A Newman + Jammer tandem would be pretty awesome.

exactly they did it to dockery last year, and doing it to Cooley now. They do not appreciate their homegrown guys

*##* are you talking about?!

Are you suggesting the Skins should have paid Dockery what Buffalo did?!

They're working with Cooley now to extend him.

The dumb*** team that lets their very few draftees leave and overpay over the hill veterans in an attempt to buy a championship.

any more questions?

I am suggesting they should of locked him up long before he became a FA to resign him, and since the FO was not smart enough to do so then yes they should have paid the going FA rate for him

They did the same thing to Bailey didnt lock him up early and then wouldnt pay going rate

They are currently doing it to cooley

I have been hearing the "talks" BS for awile now, JLC says those talks are far apart

Jammer hasnt "really come on"...he's still no more than average

the best thing you can say about him is that he isnt a MAMMOTH bust anymore...but he certainly doesnt look like a high 1st rd pick talent on the field

don't get mad because your team ****ed up the salary cap, thus weren't able to pay for him

We have two playoff victories in the last ten years.

What's funny is you Skins fans seem to think that's acceptable... I mean, you constantly brag about it, as if it's something great...

Dont understand the emoticon. Was I incorrect in making that statement? How can the Skins get called the new Cardinals of the NFC East when BOTH teams have been putrid the last ten years. At least the skins have gone SOMEWHERE though.

Although maybe I misinterpreted it. Maybe youre jerking off to your fantasies of what the cowboys USED TO BE. Keep hanging on to the triplet years buddy, its doing you alot of good.

We're a helluva lot closer to being contenders than you guys are...

I would have to give my nod to Lester Hayes and Mike Haynes.

A little late, but yeah from my experience in ES, it isn't opponent-friendly at all.

For god's sakes they have a STICKIED thread saying "**** the Cowboys" at the top of the "Around the NFL" forum.

That honestly just shows that whoever was moderator (probably TK) lacks any kind of class.

God I used to dream of seeing a 100% Kevin Smith and Deion together. Smith was something else from 1993-94. Another great tandem was Lester Hayes and Mike Haynes with the Raiders in the early '80s. And as much as I hate to say it, Bobby Taylor and Troy Vincent also did a great job.

Wow I just read that after posting. Great minds think alike!

You're likely to get thoroughly reamed for this opinion, but I'm on your side... Jammer would be a terrific addition next season... he's not a Pro Bowl talent, but he'd be one of the NFL's best second corners (Newman being the lead corner, of course)...
