One of the best moments in cowboys history?

One of my favorites was when Staubach entered the playoff game replacing Morton aginst SF late in the game Dallas trailed by 3 scores but Roger led the team back to a 30 to 28 win. Can't remember the exact year but I do remember that was the season Roger had suffered a dislocated shoulder early in the year

The win over the Giants to take the division when Emmitt played with a seperated shoulder is another one. I honestly believe that Dallas needed to win that game to get a week off or they might not have repeated as Super Bowl champs. They had a lot of knicks after that game and getting the bye really helped. That was a great game.

Another thing about the Harvey Martin thing, that wouldn't fly in today's NFL. He would be fined and suspended for a couple of games.

Today nobody can take "it" anymore. Like Larry Bird being the biggest trash-talker, and Billy "Whiteshoes" Johnson celebrating in the end zone, noone is able to take a shot like a man and pick themselves up and give it another go. Players are so worried about being dissed and retaliating with physical violence, instead of playing the game and having fun at each others expense.

Oh well, the No Fun League looks like they're getting ready to tighten up even more:(

Sorry, I love the Cowboys but I can't be a homer. We got every single call in that game. The holding call on Maryland was similar to the one in this year's Super Bowl and there was that awful defensive holding call on Emmitt that gave the Cowboys a first down and eventually led to a TD. No offense, but if Dallas gets a call that goes there way, I admit it was a bad call but I'll take it everytime. Dallas got every call in that game. There's nothing wrong in admitting that. There are plenty of games when Dallas didn't have calls go their way. However, that wasn't one of the games. I suggest you pop in the tape and take a look at that holding call again. I'm not saying it was horrible but it sure as heck was questionable.

Actually, I was looking over some old tapes just a few weeks ago and watched that game. We will just have to disagree on that call. I don't think it was questionable, it was clearly holding IMO. Of course, I was very thankful at the time. Whew! It was a good break for Dallas. Maryland would have sacked or at least pressured Young on that play if not for the hold. Of course, Dallas, like every team, has had plenty of things go uncalled over the years as well as had some famous instances of good luck. (Larry Brown in SB XXX comes to mind). I was just thankful the refs saw it and called it on that play against the 49ers.

I'd have to say there's a five-way tie for best Cowboys moment:

:lombardi:

My personal favorite, aside from that, from my years as a fan is the Giants game where Emmitt played with a separated shoulder. Gutsy performance.

The greatest day of my life as a fan of sports came when I was 7 years old, the 1992 NFC Title Game. Even being that young, I still remember that game against the 49ers like it was yesterday. The only game I can honestly tell you I remember my reaction to each and every big play that took place.

When Alvin Harper caught the 70 yard pass with a few minutes left to all but end it, I remember me and my dad both leaping off the couch and jumping around for a good 5 minutes. Great stuff :)

The 1995 NFC Title game's 4th quarter is also up there. I honestly thought we were going to lose that game, but Emmitt put on one of the greatest quarters in playoff history.

There are a lot and most of them mentioned in this thread. However the number one best moment for me (and to a certain degree for this franchise) was winning Super Bowl VI. We were more known as "the team who couldn't win the big one" more than anything else. After years and years of being the best team but not winning a super bowl and finally getting that monkey off our back really was a HUGE turning point in our teams history. The momentium carried us through the decade. No doubt that team should have won more than two super bowls.

My favorite Cowboy moment will always be the 92 NFC Championship game when Alvin Harper took a slant over the middle to break the 49ers back.

Had they been forced to punt due to failing to convert on third down, it is more than possible that the game could have turned out differently.

The Aikman to Harper slant sealed the deal. I was relieved beyond belief and started celebrating.

CAN'T TOP THAT. I FELT LIKE I WAS HAVING AN OUT OF BODY EXPERIENCE!
COME TO THINK OF IT, THAT WHOLE SECOND HALF WAS AN OUT OF BODY EXPERIENCE.
I REALLY DON'T THNK I COULD HAVE HANDLED A LOSS THAT DAY AND PERHAPS WOULD HAVE HAD TO EXIT MY BODY!

I find it sad indeed that so many think the greatest moment in Cowboys history was some newsmaking crapola that didn't take place on the field.

Drafting Roger Staubach

The day Roger joined the Cowboys after serving his duty in the Navy

two words: "Hail Mary" you know the original one to Drew Pearson, what a feeling.

For me, even though it came in a Cowboys loss, Tony Dorsett's 99 yard run against Minnesota was something that I will never forget watching. Amazing to watch him tightrope the sidelines the way he did and run it in for a TD. Would have been even better had it been for the winning score though.

Someting that will probably never be duplicated.

I was reading all the threat and I was surpised no one mention this run... that night was a great moment and not only for the Cowboys, for the NFL as well :)

There are more great moments...Emmitt run for the NFL rushing record, the 92 NFC Championship game, the Superbowls, the "Hail Mary"... its just great to watch Cowboys games! Those are great moments ;)

For me the greatest blockbuster trade we ever made was trading up to get Tony Dorsett at the #2 overall spot. That trade had immediate impact; we were one player away from the Superbowl and he put us over the top.

The most far-reaching trade was undoubtedly the Walker trade though.

there are a billion great moments in Cowboy history. Our first superbowl, our first superbowl in the 90s, the great play from the countless great players that have played for us. But I honestly can say I don't remember being happier than during the 2005 draft. Now obviously this gets credit for being so recent. But for the first time in a decade it felt like the franchise was back on track again. I was legitimatly scared for the Cowboys legacy after 10 years of lousy general management. After we drafted Ware, Spears, Barber, and Canty I was absolutley certain that we would win another superbowl.

Mine is still the 74 Thanksgiving game that Roger was knocked outta the game. Rookie Clint Longley comes in a tears apart the Commanders with the final being a bomb to Drew Pearson with 30 seconds left.

Won 25 cents from my uncle (Giants fan) and I was 13 years old.

The fact we won without Roger at that point in my life just added to the Cowboys lore...Americas Team !

Personally, after the Emmit-separated-shoulder game, I'll go with the first game against the Eagles last season, when we finally gave them a much deserved and long awaited @$$ whooping!

for me , there have been several. The run by Tony D was amazing. All the comebacks by Roger S. The Superbowls of course. And one that hasn't been mentioned.. the NFC Title game that we lost, ending our chance of a 3peat in the 90's. Remember this game, against the 49'ers. Early turnovers got us down 21-0 in the first quarter but that team never quit, they battled the whole game, and even though they lost the game, I was never more proud of a Dallas Cowboy team. And that game reminded me why I am a Cowboys' fan. The never say die attitude, the heart that has endeared this team to me since i was 3 yrs old. Even in a loss, we proved again, why we are America's Team. As far as the best performance,, that goes to Emmitt Smith against the Giants, He showed more heart in that game than i have ever seen a player show esp in the day of overpaid nfl players. That was an amazing thing to watch.
