if you could pick a running back(any era) to start 1 game, 1 season, and 1 career who would it be?

for me if I had to put a runningback on my team for one game and say we are going to go to you all game and we are going to win, I'm going to have to go with earl campbell

for a season it is about who can dominate the entire league for one year so for me it came down to brown or dickerson. brown wins out for me because he proved that he could do it in most seasons in his career and stay healthy, plus I think he would have beaten dickersons record twice if there had been 16 games back then

for a career it came down to brown again and emmitt so I'm going homer here and going with emmitt

who comes out on top for you?

Game -- Marshall Faulk

Season -- Terrell Davis

Career -- Emmitt Smith

I know you're trying to have a little fun in this interminable off-season, and I'm sure other posters will give it to you. But I would take Emmitt Smith in all three categories.

Game -- because even if it's not the running game's day, he was still a good enough pass catcher and pass blocker that his contributions there can't go unnoticed.

Season -- he set the NFL record for most touchdowns in a season (until it was broken by Ladanian Tomlinson in 2006).

Career -- he's the all-time NFL rushing leader, which is no easy task. Ask Curtis Martin and Ladanian Tomlinson, two guys we thought might catch Emmitt.

1 game...Bo Jackson in his absolute prime.

1 season...LaDanian Tomlinson in 2006. 2300+ yards form scrimmage and 31 TDs, plus he could throw the football too. 2 TD passes that year.

1 career...Emmitt. Most yards. Most TDs. 3 Super Bowl rings. 8 Pro Bowls. 4 All Pros. MVP awards. rushing titles. Nuff said.

Hmm niiiiice call with Bo as your one game back. That just might be the best bet for a game.

Actually Tomlinson broke a record shared by Priest Holmes and Shaun Alexander. Priest broke Emmitt's in 2003. Alexander matched it in 2005.

If Peterson didn't have fumblitis I'd pick him for one game, but you can't fully trust him to not put the ball on the turf.

jackson in prime and campbell in prime would be an interesting discussion

I thought about tomlinson, as well as priest in his prime but the way I was thinking was not hey who had the best season and pick that guy, but if you had to pick a guy to play a season and hope he has that kind season, who would I pick

the tyler rose was indeed special....although for only about 5 years.

jim brown ..never got to see other than film footage.

emmitt...definitely one of the best running backs ever.

sweetness gets my vote for all 3 scenarios..

he had one fumble in both 2010 and 2011

fumbles, or fumbles lost? I seem to remember him coughing it up more than twice in the last two seasons.

Easy. Walter Payton. Best RB I've ever seen play. Bo Jackson had a chance to match him. Jim Brown was a phenom, but it's hard to gauge just how good he'd be compared to modern players.

Bo Jackson. I love my Emmit, but if Bo could have stayed healthy he would have been the greatest. Don't even mention sanders.

this isn't that thread

As a grown people, it's a shame you're throwing a temper tantrum over a simple game over people that don't know or care about you. You lose your sense of sanity over this thing we call a game. Why get so upset either way when we can't change anything on this team, agree or disagree?

Interesting thought, is how would these RB's have done in different situations:

Billy Sims
William Andrews
Curt Warner
Christian Okoye

This is one of those if my uncle had a ***** type questions.
