He is to tall. Normally, pass rushing experts get around the tackles right under their armpits. I noticed that Demarcus is just as tall as all tackles and he can not go under the tackles armpits without his head getting in the way. Not being able to do this, he takes too far of a rush outside and just missing the QB. I know there are alot of 6'4 pass rushers but, to me, Demarcus looks like he has a wingspan of a 7 footer. This isnt a rip Ware thread, I think hes doing alot of things a player doesnt get pub for. I cant wait until he gets NFL strong. This is a learning season for him and hes playing soild football. I could be wrong, it wouldnt be the first. What do you guys think?

yeah.......... all NFL scouts search for short players with short arms --- they typically thrive.

I never said that, Im talking as an indivdual basis. Just Demarcus, not the entire nfl player pool.

^ sarcasm i hope

As a defensive end let me help you out here. All those big fat tackles want to do is grab your jersey and hold on. So the best way to get a good pass rush is to keep the tackle at arms length and away from your chest, you attack half the blocker not the whole blocker, and you use speed and quick adjustments to keep the tackle honest. so lets see.....

Long arms to keep tackle from grabbing on......check
speed to get to the outside............................check
very quick .................................................check

all this kid is missing is some more NFL experience and most importantly some NFL strength to be able to manipulate the big boys especially for a whole 16+ game schedule. you can tell he is getting tired, from the long season. And don't forget the kid didn't go to USC or Miami he went to Troy so his learning curve is a bit steeper due to some lesser competition in college.

Give him time to learn and gain strength the kids gonna be great.

You want your marquee pass rusher to have long arms and to be tall.

His long wing-span will help keep the Tackles at bay as once a Tackle gets his hands on a linebacker or End for that matter, the Tackle is normally going to win that battle.

His height and his long wing-span are also pluses for knocking down passes.

His long wind-span will also help him get his hands on a Back that is trying to blow by him when he is occupied by a Tackle, which one example the annoucers highlighted him doing this very thing.

This is what you want in a rusher.

man you forgot "good DE coaching" on your list. I think that's missing. Ellis is the only "home grown" DE we've got out of about 4 or 5 high draft pick DEs

apoligies for my over-sarcastic post --- it does read a bit rude.

I don't think DeMarcus is too tall. I think he is playing really well. and, I think any criticism of him is crazy.
I mean that KC line is good ---- and if one Cowboy player was getting near Green, it was Ware.

Lol. Ware was owned all day. Good grief. He has no moves whatsoever, if he can't beat the tackle with a speed rush outside he's done. He'll get better for sure but right now he is getting blocked by every left tackle he plays against.

...pass rusher to have good balance to maintain a low pad level. He also has to have very flexible hips and ankles to leverage around the block or turn the corner.

Dude-he was going up against Willie Roaf today, who's arguably the best LT in the game.

I've seen Roaf play in the Crescent City for many years-even the best pass rushers never had a chance against him.

I thought Ware looked good against the several time ProBowl LT Willie Roaf, he matched up against him all day and played well vs the run and pass. This is a rookie guys, he's gonna get alot better.

Ware is going to really get better this year with an offseason in the weight room under Parcells; for that matter so will Canty, Spears and Burnett. These young guys we brought in this year will be beasts next year and will just keep getting better IMO.

it's not him being to tall. It's him firing off high. He needs to stay low, use his burst and get off. he is faster then EVERY offensive lineman in the league. Also, he is smaller than all of them. He needs to use that, and stop dancing and running around blockers. He should start taking more angles TO the QB. As you have probably seen him run circles around qb's while the O-lineman run him out of the pocket.
