One very strong positive for defense

Before tonight, when was the last time you can remember the Cowboy defense, protecting a seven or fewer point lead, stopping an offense of Philly's caliber on the final drive of the game?

The defense played bad overall, but they played very well late in the game when it mattered.

Then again, McNabb just played outstanding. He got away from would be sacks at least 5 times. But not when it mattered.

Mmm, Indianapolis in 2006 probably.

I should've said, "fewer than a seven point lead." But the Indy example is a good one.

The D stepped up when it mattered, especially against Philly's high-octane offense.

It is a very encouraging note going forward

The Eagles' last three drives went (not counting penalties) --

-- 12 yards, fumble

-- 12 yards, punt

-- 12 yards, turnover on downs

They also had another three-and-out to start the third quarter, which means that four of their five drives in the second half basically went nowhere.

They played great in the second half.

Good to see them step up when it counted.

Now, if they can learn to do it for 60 minutes, good things will be ahead.

Actually, I was impressed with the pass rush on the final two series.
The way the rules are today, it's hard to keep high-powered teams from moving down the field. I was overall satisfied with our defense - all things considered.

Not to mention the many times in the first half that the Cowboys defense had McNabb literally inches from being tackled, and he deftly scrambled away.

I have to believe that a less mobile QB (such as, say, Aaron Rogers) will go down in those situations.

I admit, when Philly scored in the second half to take the lead again I was cursing and shouting at the gutless defense on the screen. They proved me wrong on those last couple of drives. Mad props. Ware chasing McNabb down from the opposite side of the field for a sack is just epic, and tells you all about the heart he has.

Philly was 5 of 12 on 3rd down(41%) and 0 for 1 on 4th down. That ain't too bad.

I saw what the Eagles did to adjust to TO slamming them big time in the passing game in the second half - always a safety over the top.

Aside from getting to the ball faster I thought Burnett was in the game more to counter Westbrook and we jumped the line a bit more.

What did we do to adjust? That you saw.

That fumble had nothing to do with our Cowboys, and everything to do with a botch. Plus, the last drive, the Philly WR dropped an open pass, I believe it was against Jenkins who was playing 15 yards off of him, that would have been a clear first down...

There is a thread that someone started about about a tale of 2 halves in regards to the defense. Two different games. Overall they were great in 2nd half.

Exactly!

Yeah they closed the deal.

For me... going into half time 30-24 instead of 34-21 was a BIG difference.
