2014 was Tony Romo's last best chance to take the team to the Super Bowl. That season ended with "The Catch" that was called incomplete in the game against Green Bay. If not for an injury against Washington, the Cowboys likely would have gone 13-3 and had home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Instead, they found themselves in a 3-way tie for 1st place in the NFC, and due to tie breaker rules, they became the 3rd seed - despite the fact that they beat the Seahawks, and the Seahawks beat the Packers. Due to the loss against the Commanders, the Cowboys had more NFC losses than Seattle or Green Bay, and got the 3rd seed.

From that team, which included new "triplets" Tony Romo, DeMarco Murray and Dez Bryant, plus perennial Pro Bowl player Jason Witten, only 12 players remain on the team. The other 81 players** currently on the Cowboys roster were all acquired since the 2015 season. In fact, Byron Jones, Randy Gregory, and Chaz Green are the 13th, 14th, and 15th longest tenured players on the team. Here are the 12 players that remain from that 2014 Playoff Team, with the date they joined the Cowboys. It includes 5 undrafted players, and 7 premium draft picks:

1. 09/27/05 – LS L.P. Ladouceur – UDFA (2005 UDFA by NO) Pro Bowl 2014

2. 04/23/10 – LB Sean Lee – 2nd round pick Pro Bowl 2015, 2016

3. 04/28/11 – OT Tyron Smith – 1st round pick Pro Bowl 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017

4. 07/25/11 – PK Dan Bailey – UDFA Pro Bowl 2015

5. 07/29/11 – P Chris Jones – UDFA

6. 04/27/12 – DE Tyrone Crawford – 3rd round pick

7. 04/29/12 – WR Cole Beasley – UDFA

8. 04/25/13 – OC Travis Frederick – 1st round pick Pro Bowl 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017

9. 04/26/13 – WR Terrance Williams – 3rd round pick

10. 04/28/13 – SS Jeff Heath – UDFA

11. 05/08/14 – OG Zack Martin – 1st round pick Pro Bowl 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017

12. 05/09/14 – DE DeMarcus Lawrence – 2nd round pick Pro Bowl 2017

**Note: The Cowboys 93 man roster includes suspended DT David Irving, plus OG Marcus Martin and WR Cedric Wilson on Injured Reserve

12. 05/09/14 – DE DeMarcus Lawrence – 2nd round pick

It continues to amaze me how quickly the turnover has happened - specifically with the offensive skill positions. Never in a million years would I have guessed that after that game, all of those players would be gone within three seasons time.

That just goes to show you why the 4th-7th round picks are not worth much. Might as well trade them to move up in rounds 1-3

This is the area I’ve always given Garrett credit for. Rebuilding the roster without sucking deserves some credit.

That said...it’s time now.

He’s had more than enough poor in game decisions, lack of adjustment(tired but true), not having the team ready for big playoff games, and generally looking like he’s not coaching when he’s on the sideline that I’ve grown sick of him.

If he wins BIG this year I’ll learn to like him.

Or......had the Cowboys not taken Thanksgiving off they would have gone 13-3.

Funny how tie breakers work. Some of it beyond a team's control. Seattle finished 1st in Conf. record. Had GB finished first and been first seed, Dallas would be 2nd seed, Seattle 3rd.

And Sean Lee didn't play in 2014. If he had, I liked their dhances to advance that year.

Actually, it shows the opposite. Why invest so heavily in a couple of players that are only going to be around for 4-5 years anyway.

For instance, I think Zeke plays 2-3 more years here, and then the Cowboys move on to the next guy.

Quarterbacks tend to stick if you find a good one. Same for offensive linemen. Everybody else tends to change regularly. The Sean Lees are rare.

Only 5 O, 4 D (& 3 ST). That's quite a turnover, especially when you consider that 3 of the 5 O players are 1st Rd Linemen.

I wonder what we'll look like 5 years from now. We seem to have quite a few young keepers.
