1. Bosa
2. Buckner
3. Lawson
4. Dodd
5. Spence
6. Ogbah
7. Nassib
8. Calhoun

Very possible that the 1st 6 are gone before we pick in the 2nd? Does this force our hand even more than we think at #4? Or possibly even worse, force a trade up from our 2nd rounder? So many questions about the position and so little answers. Either Hardy or Bosa are looking like the only options and I don't want either.

I will note that guys like Tapper, Koufusi, and Judon aren't bad prospects, just not the type you could plug into the rotation day 1 and expect results imo.

Honest answer.
No, it doesn't force Dallas' hand at 4

Also, there is the chance that after week 4, Gregory may be able to help us now that he's in his second year. Few, if any, rookies will be helping much that early.
Plus, DLaw is coming on.

I see us drafting a DE at some point..maybe even at 4...but it will be if they think that player is worthy of wherever they draft him.

I say wait until next year for that edge rusher we need in the first (Gregory's development/possibly Hardy signing not withstanding) but also don't hesitate with the scouts' evaluation in the rest of the draft including 3/4 converts or underweight, character concerns, etc. type of players that may be able to provide depth initially and be worked into the rotation if proven worthy.

If we needed a RDE I would say yeah, but the plan with Lawrence was to be a RDE. He moved left when Hardy was added. I think LDE can be manned by solid players. Maybe even Irving for 4 games or (less likely) resigning of Hardy post-draft.

If the goal is to send DL in waves and keep guys fresh, I don't think it's that productive to spend a top 5 pick on a LDE and have highly paid linemen at 3 of 4 spots, as far as cap management goes. (Lawrence isn't yet, but soon will be.) And if we're going to rotate DL as frequently as it appears we want to, is that really worthy of top 5 then? If there was a superstar RDE I'd feel differently about getting one early.

Your list shows the value is there in a trade down, at least to Ogbah. I'd add Bullard to the list. And Nkemdiche is kind of a wild card. Ideally a 3tech but mobile enough to play strong side DE. Maybe the coaches feel differently, but I think Spence (and Floyd) shouldn't be in a 4-3.

Just take players you think will develop. But to answer the question, we'll get an impact rotational DL with one of the first two picks. If it's at 34, it'll still be a player who will help us.

For more impact, the young players we've already added need to continue to progress. We've got 3-4 of them at that point now. Time to contribute.

So who exactly are these young guys we have? We have Lawrence, Mayowa, Russell, Gregory by week 5, and Mike McAdoo(who?) at DE right now. Maybe throw in Irving and Thornton for 10-15 snaps a game....that makes you guys feel comfortable? That makes me feel horrible honestly. That's minimum 2 above average players away from being passable.

I was thinking Crawford, Gregory, and Lawrence.

No, it doesn't make me comfortable necessarily. I'd like two more front 7 players for the rotation in the draft. But if we're going to make the argument that rookies don't make an impact, we need to remember we've got players at an age where they should really be coming on, too. This is a process we started a few years ago already.

Very good 3 tech who occasionally plays DE. I like him but I wouldn't stick him at DE full time, he's too disruptive inside to waste that capability

I see him as more of a SDE who can kick inside on passing downs. Guess everyone sees different stuff when watching these guys.

I would have no problem with Nassib in the second if the first 6 are all gone.

I just hope we get the right one. So in the 17-18 season we can be mostly set on the dline.

We trade down and grab Lawson. Measures well. Tools to excel. Tapper will be a good pro.

My preference is Bosa,Lawson and Ogbah is that order, there are other later RDs potential DEs but we backed ourselves into a corner here.

we pretty much got the same 4 and 12 defense we had last year sure don't make me feel very good about where we are at. they couldn't get a turnover or get of the field at all

I like Bosa a lot more than most on here. If we don't go QB at #4 I would want him.
In the second I'd really have to be moved to take anyone other than Ogbah if he was there. Even if we got Bosa. I like drafting DEs and Lawrence and Russell is all we have since I consider the Gregory gamble a failure and don't count on him for anything.
