There are less than 10 days remaining until the NFL Draft and for me at least that means the 'start' of the next NFL season. It will be a chance to look wholly forward without the constant nagging of the failed 2008 season.

We'll have new players to factor into the schemes and new depth charts to smile upon and in general the hopeful enthusiasm every (ok mostly every) NFL team has to begin a new season.

It should also mean far less ugliness on the board and far less emo-ness amongst all. In 10 days no more haters or lovers, just hopeful fans one and all. There will always be a few more hesitant people but they'll get swept up in the excitement as well in spit of themselves:)

Hopefully it means no more posts about 81 or anyone else who is no longer here except where they may bring us compensation for signing elsewhere.

In 10-12 days we will have a full football roster. That will be the vast majority of the 2009 Dallas Cowboys and no matter what anyone tells you they have a very real shot at winning it all. Doesn't mean they will but they will that shot if they catch breaks in scheduling and injuries.

I for one will be as relieved to have made it through the painful 2008 football season as I can ever recall.

For 2009 this needs to a year of redemption for the Dallas Cowboys. It is definitely the year to shut up the mediots about consecutive seasons without a playoff win and definitely time to shut up everyone concerned this team can't win because of approach.

Ten days can not come soon enough.

Good post. I believe this will be one of the most closely watched drafts of Jerry Jones' tenure.

He has a highly talented roster already with only a few holes. Some of the things I will be observing is whether he will remain firm with both the best player available strategy and refrain from making more than two/three draft day trades at best.

In my opinion, this team is very, very close. This draft can push the team closer to its ultimate goal, allow it to remain as status quo or regress it. This doesn't have to be a speculator draft. Just a solid one. I can't wait.

I'm having trouble getting fired up for the draft ... and the season for that matter.

I've been a Cowboy fan since about 1970 and this is the least interested I've been in what they're doing.

I'll still watch everything, but I'm struggling this year.

It is almost time for people to lose their minds because Jerry did not pick their pet cat or Jerry picked this player or that player and so on...but at least it will be something new to talk about which will be a welcomed change.

Very nice post, JT.

But I think you're overly optimistic if you think people are going to stop complaining about last year just because of the draft. :)

Like BP said, soon we get to hear posters complaining and moaning because we didn't happen to pick their particular draft faves... Ugh.

Personally, I've been over last year for a long time now. Not sure why it takes some people so long to start looking forward.

My hope is that any draftee will not be falsely advertised to the forum. In my opinion, Felix Jones really caught a lot of unnecessary negativity last offseason; and based on his college career, I still cannot remotely fathom why.

Because many were wanting mendenhall (sp?). Now the reports where his own coach was calling him out and questioning his heart makes the Jones pick all the much better.

Agree with all the above, including when i became a fan.

Its a shame that with the new stadium we hadn't gone with a new coaching staff as well.

Oh well, as always go Cowboys.

That's the thing. Even though I was aware of Felix Jones' abilities at Arkansas, I both expected and would have supported Mendenhall's selection. Having a pet cat is one thing, but ignoring the potential of another player is something entirely different.

I don't know. It's like even though he shared the backfield with Darren McFadden and played at a major college, Jones was somehow this 'unknown' player. It seemingly flew in the face of more than a few draft publications, websites, gurus, etc., projecting him as a mid-to-late first-round pick. The whole Felix The Cat backlash just didn't make much sense to me.

Mendenhall sorta finds himself in a Bobby Carpenter type situation in which he has to prove his first-round selection. Pittsburgh won it all without him. Should the Steelers draft another running back this year, it would send a clear message that they are expecting more from him--regardless of his own claims for being too injured to play.

I'm on the west coast and not certain about the start time of the draft this year.

Unless Dallas trades into the first round, it's too long of a wait.
I don't have a lot of confidence in seeing Jerry Jones trade up into the first. I'll bet (figure of speech) that he trades down and picks up one more second round pick at least. The wait is a killer, though.

Me too Chief. Another member and I were talking about the exact same thing a month ago. Until the whole organization starts caring more and showing passion about what they do it's very hard to get excited over it.

Hard to get excited without a first round pick (thanks, Jerry). There's just no buzz this year.

That's funny, I'm more excited about this draft than I have been since 2003 when we drafted Newman.

That's just because one, we did so well last year, and two, I think we're going to draft heavily at my favorite positions of DL and LB.

I'm also very excited about this season. If Jerry had kept TO around, I'd feel more like Chief and Duane.

If I felt like Chief and Duane I'd prolly stay drunk:)

I would be optimistic with out without T.O. because that is what being a fan is.

This is the Dallas Cowboys and they will always be in the spotlight and they will always have big names and play in big games.

They open the newest and best stadium in the world and bring back enough talent to win it all. If you can't get excited about that then in my honest opinion you are really one tough cookie to please.

But we'll give our buddies these 10 days to get over that hump:) 44-6 is hard to swallow to be sure.

be prepared from the nagging and incessant whining of SLATEmosphere when we don't draft Louis Delmas

but I am too excited for the draft, we have 11 picks, we should make some noise

lol, almost forgot to add to my reply to CL that yes the drafting prowess last year has me excited. We clearly do not need a first round pick to find talent.

Recent drafts have brought us Barber, Witten, Canty, Ratliff, Scandrick and others on the draft's second day.

I really trust this personnel staff.

I really believe the bad picks Parcells made when he overruled the scouting dept gave Jerry a view from the outside in and he learned not to try and outsmart the experts.
