Onside Kick?

Why would you not try an onside kick when you are kicking off from their 40?

I know the obvious, and we pinned them down, and we ended up with a TD after the punt and got the ball at the 45 anyway.

So, not really second guessing because if they get the ball at the thrity maybe it changes the game to their advantage, but what would you have done?

I would have done the onside kick.

yeah, my buddies and i were talking about that too.. we would have kicked an onside as well..

anyways, though, i still liked what the Boys did.. better than booming it out of the end zone for a touchback.. (although it would have helped Vandy's kickoff stats.. hehe)

certainly worth a shot since the titans would have taken the ball around their 30 or worse, but the odds are still against recovering it.

Plus, I'm sure Parcells had to worry about Vandershank going wide right out of bounds...then the titans would have started from their own 40.;)

I thought Dallas played it right and the chances of recovering the short squib kick was still in the cards as well as field position should tenn recover as they ended up doing.

Onside kicks have an even lower chance of success with the new rules. Plus we were winning by enough, might as well pin them back.

I missed the start of the 3rd Quarter, can someone tell me why we got to kick off from the 40 please?

I actually do wonder where they would spot the ball if Vandy had kicked it out of bounds. I guess the 20, but I am not sure because I believe the rule states it is to be spotted 40 yards from where it is kicked.

BP just stated on the PC that it would be put on the 40. I thought it was 30 yds from the kickoff spot.

The double personal foul penalties on Haynesworth.

That brings up a point. How many double personal fouls do you ever see?

Problem is that if you try for a onside kick and don't get it, they'll wind up getting pretty good field position at the 30. That was actually a solid squib by Vandy, tough to kick that ball inside the 10 without it going OB or going into the endzone.

I think it would be a good idea in general, but at that point it would have been rubbing it in. We were up by what, 3 TDs at the time?

I was at the game and almost everyone in the stadium thought of that which would probably mean jeff fisher did to. Onsides dont work that well w/out the element of surprise.

At that point it wouldn't be about the element of surprise. It would be about taking advantage of good field position. Trying it and failing doesn't put the team in a big hole because the Titans get the ball at the 30 or so. Plus if you do recover it, you have excellent field position.

It is called being a good sport. We had a decent lead at that point, and it was apparent that Tennessee was not capable of a comeback. Why rub it in further?

In a close game, I could see Parcells taking a chance.

There was actually one in the Rams/Lions game if I recall correctly. Leonard Little got called for roughing the passer for a personal foul and then got another 15 yards tacked on for arguing with the refs too excessively.

Good sport - are you kidding me - we had a 2 TD lead with a half of football to go. That is nothing to get comfortable with and be a good sport about. Just ask Philly, Seattle about how much of a lead to be comfortable with.
