let Flo walk?

I'm guessing we'd probably go with D Free or McQ, but since it's a bit slow, I thought I'd throw this out there . . . . M Starks is Pitts transition player.

From GBNREPORT.COM
(7:00 PM): Tag day ends; two more designated… The deadline for NFL teams to designate players with either a franchise or transition tag passed earlier this afternoon with two more players being tagged. Dallas, for example, designated FS Ken Hamlin a franchise player on Thursday, locking up the Pro Bowl safety through at least next season. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh named OT Max Starks a transition player. As a result, the Steelers have the right to match any offer that Starks, who will be a free agent at the end of the month, however, if the Steelers do not match an offer that is made to Starks, they will receive no compensation if he signs elsewhere. Overall, 11 players were named as franchise players this year, while Starks was the only transition player.

If we won't pay Adams, we sure as heck won't pay Starks, who probably won't be asking for much less than what Flozell will.

He's only 26 years old, and around 6-7 or 6-8 and 337 lbs.

You're probably right.

But M Starks is only 26 years old and could play out a long contract, unlike Flo. He's also similar size to Flo.

Just thought I'd throw it out there . . . .

If we let Flo go, then we need to give our young guys a shot. McQ or Free deserve a chance. maybe then we won't have to sink so much $$ into FA OL. If BP had been able to make a decent pick or two along the OL, our cap would be in even better shape than it is now.

With Coach HH on board, I am looking forward to seeing how these young guys develop plus maybe picking up a mid-round project.

Yeah, here's the article:

The Steelers took a big step today toward trying to solidify their offensive line by placing the "transition" tag on unrestricted tackle Max Starks -- a move that means the team will have to pay Starks the average of the top 10 tackles in the National Football League.

With the Steelers already expected to lose Pro Bowl guard Alan Faneca in free agency, the move to keep Starks also means the team won't have to be as active in free agency in an attempt to rebuild their offensive line.

Starks, a four-year veteran and two-year starter, lost his starting right tackle spot last season to Willie Colon, a move that all but signaled the end of his Steelers career. But when left tackle Marvel Smith was injured late in the season, Starks played so well at left tackle that he drastically increased his free-agent value and forced the Steelers to reconsider his value to the team.

By placing the transition tag on Starks, the Steelers also have first right of refusal should another team try to sign the 6-foot-8, 345-pound tackle.

And this:

Steelers' starting left tackle Max Starks' knee injury is serious enough that he will not play again this season, coach Mike Tomlin said.

Starks has a meniscus injury that will require surgery.
