I dont want this thread to turn into a big arguement but I like to hear some opinions.

Would you rather have

A. Wade Phillps head coach, DCoordinater/ J Garrett O Coordinater

or

Watching 4th and long I really think Irvin could be a good head coach. The way he gets on players and doesnt give them a chance to let down is amazing. Do you think Flozell will be jumping offsides under Irvin. Or, our two patent defensive line offsides a game. Im talking head coach and not coordinaters. It would be

Irvin head coach
Phillps D Coordinater
Garrett O Coordinater

Irvin will never call a play or add plays; hes just in charge. He says either to go for it or punt, who to play and who not to play, and to be a motivational guy.

Ill ask this too, will we win more games with coaching staff A or coaching staff B?

Just for fun guys, nothing to get upset about.

I really am astounded by all of the scenarios that have been brought up since the end of last season where Wade miraculously decides he will step down as HC of this team while at the same time stay to be DC.

That's not to be a jerk about it but come on people...do people think he would actually be ok doing that? It is one thing to go to another team as a DC but to step down as HC of a team and turn around to be DC while they bring in someone else to be HC. Just not very realistic.

Also, unlike other sports, the NFL is not a place that gives head coaching jobs to someone who has never even been a position coach in college or the pros. I mean if the scenario would be to bring Irvin in as a WR coach or something along those lines to get his feet wet and give him EXP that would be one thing...but to just bring him in as HC...again just does not seem very realistic with the NFL.

If we fall on our faces this season, I could see an "offensive oriented" HC like Shannahan or Holmgren being brought in and Wade "demoted" to DC.

Before anyone flames me, let me explain why I think Wade might take the demotion.

He's not going to be getting another head coaching gig in the NFL if he flames next year, I believe that's a given.

However, he's still a very good defensive coordinator and I think Jerry realizes this. He MIGHT offer Wade the DC job without a cut in pay. If he does, I believe Wade would accept.

That would be awesome. I think Wade has a lot of pride and would hate to do that with the way he's been bashed around here, but maybe if Jerry moneywhipped him enough, he'd do it. I do have concerns about who would run our D with Holmgren or Shanahan, and what really gets me is that we drafted so many defensive players this year who are targeted for very specific roles in this particular defense. At the very least, we'd have to get another 34 coach, but even then, these rookies fit the Phillips 34 much better than the Parcells/Belichick style.

Of course I still hate to even talk about this topic right now, because I'm hoping we do well enough to keep the current staff for another year at least. We need to at least give it a try since this appears to be the first year Jerry has stepped out of the way a little and let the coach pick players he really wants (Igor, Brooking, Stewart, Siavii, Brandon Williams, no Tank or Pacman etc.)

Irvin or Wade? I'll go with Irvin, even with no experience he's still probably better then Wade
