The media has been saying it has to be an indictment against Free, but I don't believe that's the case. I believe it has very little to do with Free and everything to do with Proctor and Holland.

First, we have to face facts that Proctor is going to make the roster because he's the only viable backup center we have. However, Holland showed in a short time that he is a much better option as a backup guard (couldn't be much worse).

We're most likely only going to have seven linemen on the game-day rostes, so we need to consider what would be our best combination. There is less of a drop-off (if any) from Davis to Free at tackle than there is from Holland to Proctor at guard ... so we would need to take Proctor as the backup center and Holland as the backup at both guard spots and move Davis to tackle if an injury happens there during a game.

I believe that this is what Dallas has under consideration in giving Davis some practice time at tackle. If Adams was injured for an extended period, Free, who has had a pretty good camp, would move into the starting role. (Sidenote: If Colombo was injured for an extended period, I believe we'd move Davis to right tackle and play Holland at guard ... based on how bad McQuistan is looking -- we seem to badly need to look for a better backup tackle option.)

bottom line is we should have drafted Justin Blaylock when we had the chance.

Seriously? That's the bottom line? Because it sounds more like an anecdote.

Blaylock taken at 37 when we had pick number 26

besides all UT's linemen are soft - he has real short arms - plus he to short

we just signed Leonard Davis that year on the offensive line, so why would be selecting Justin Blaylock - what you think a 6-4 can play at LT

Davis is much better at LT then Free has shown. Sad but true. Davis would need help anytime he is facing a real good speed rusher (the Giants games would be nasty). Free would get destroyed as he is now.

how many of you actually saw enough of bigg playing LT in arizona to have a valid opinion?

I didn't, and he actually looks pretty agile for a dude his size in his time here.
