I agree. I hope we can get Ko Simpson in the 2nd round or Pat Watkins in the 3rd round.Duane said:Am I the only one tired of us trying to fix FS with low round draft choices, special teams aces and other experiments? We should just suck it up and spend a first day pick on someone that can play.

Ed Reed. 1st round draft pick, Defensive MVP 2004.Eddie said:I disagree. FS's are not first day picks. There are quality and Pro Bowl quality FS's taken on the 2nd day.
Just like FB ... FS is NOT a day 1 pick.

I see Eddie's point ... lots of good free safeties are picked later.
The problem is Dallas can't seem to find one.
I think they used up all their free safety magic in the 1960s, 70s, 80s and even the 90s.
Many of the Pro Bowlers that have manned that position for Dallas were acquired for cheap:
Cornell Green
Cliff Harris
Michael Downs
Dennis Thurman
Thomas Everett
James Washington
Brock Marion
I guess the luck ran out.

Teague, though, was a first round pick by GB. He didn't pan out for them, but the Cowboys managed to salavage him as a decent player. Even if they do use a high pick, it doesn't necessarily fix the problem and teams believe that its better to build a team by drafting safeties later unless there is a "special" type available.Duane said:Great list Chief and I'll add George Teague to it as well - not great but solid.
My whole point is, we know we have a problem there. It cost us the first Washington game and God knows how much more due to incompetence at the position.
We've gone out this off-season and addressed kicker, WR, ILB and OT to varying degrees of success. If we come out of the draft no better off than where we started and try to fix it with someone already on the roster I'll be disappointed.
