this past game?

What was the opinion on

Doug Free

McQuisten, and

A Ball and Ogelsby (sp?) at CB?

I think Hurd is going to end up a very good 3rd/4th wideout. As for Austin, still not sure. I think he's a very good KR. I think he shows promise as a WR. He gets open, and though he makes some catches, he has inconsistent hands. I wonder if yesterday was an off day for him catching the ball?

If Austin makes catches consistently in practice, maybe he just needs game experience . . . .

I think Hurd will be one of our future starters. I have a lot of respect for Oglesby, but only more experience will tell how good of a football player he is. I agree with you on Austin. Other than that, I didn't watch the game like I usually do.

I don't believe Free/McQuistan didn't get in until around the 4th quarter and I wasn't too interested in trying to see how they were doing at that point.

Ball looked like a guy playing his first NFL game on a few plays that he stood out. Ogelsby, nothing jumps out at me from the game.

I hope Hurd & Austin are battling for a roster spots next year. In addition to TO, Glenn & Crayton, I hope they use a #3 or better round pick on a WR. That leaves one spot for those two to fight it out. I hope Austin can get some hands because he has shown the ability to get open and stretch the field. He also is a pretty good KR.

nothing about the OL looked impressive.....I hope we do not ignore the WR position in the offseason thinking Austin and Hurd are the future. Hurd at least has some guts...but Austin is a 5th WR who can play special teams and finish a game for you..but you cannot rely on him to start a game when the starters are injured. The young CBs looked no worse then Jacques Reeves and in fact they looked better. At least Ball was in the same zip code as the WR when the ball came his way...Jacques was spinning like a top all day. Cannot understand how Bobby Carpenter had to wait until the 4th quarter to play. I actually wished we had rested our starter as opposed to playing like a sack of ish.

Proctor is a servicable back up.
Reeves could get better in a couple of years.
Hurd is a possible 2 definitely 3rd WR.
Austin could be a #1 if he got his hands together. Definitely a #2 - but may end of a career 3 or 4
JJ = not even a good back up.
Free = incomplete
Ball = long way to go
Watkins = looking better and better
Crayton = a Career #3 WR, but a deadly 3.
Burnett = very good back up, could be a starter.
Carpenter = I have no clue
Bowen = Looks promising
Johnson = should be a starter
McQuistan = hoping he's the successor to Flozell.
Spencer = should be a starter in a couple of years

He's big, he gets opened, he runs great after the catch - that's what a #1 receiver does.

Not saying he WILL be, just that he COULD be. But his hands may not allow him, or the mental preperation.

I'm curious what the coaching staff thinks about Austin's hands.

I'm sure they are not as reliable as Crayton's, but I wonder if what Austin just needs is some game experience and having the opportunity to put everything together.

You get the feelilng watching Austin that he can definitely get behind the secondary, he's tough to bring down given his size, and he seems to be able to get separation on various routes.

I just hope he doesn't end up being a tease.

Are you out of your mind?
Honestly, I think Austin has play-making ability. He didn't do so good yesterday, but overall, when he did catch the ball he was gone.

The first catch he dropped, I can guarantee you that would've been a 35 yard TD had he held on to it.. He came out of that slant with serious speed, and just left the ball there.

If he gets more playing time, I wouldn't doubt he COULD become a #1. Remember, I keep saying could, don't forget that part.

I cant tell yet.... but it looks like Austin may have problems catching certain types of passes.

Like TO has problems catching the cross pass....

Maybe Austin will be the guy we send deep a few times a game. I hope he catch that pass. Its too bad that he got 2 PI calls about a month ago... because given the opp to catch those balls... he gets 2 TD's and we have an answer to that catch question... well on the deep ball anyways
