Opinions on Trigg

Fine but for that kind of money, and/or having to expose someone to waivers that you want to keep?

I guess I’m just against guys that are kept around mostly for ST purposes. The Goodwin thing annoyed me. I even think the long snapper ought to be a backup center, even though I realize it’s been this way forever. I just don’t get it with the ST specialty thing, unless you’re a Bates or Tasker type.
RE Luepke, they have misplayed him badly. IMO they should've either A. Included him more in the passing game and given him a few more carries. Or B. Moved on.

I am a fan of his and think he could've been valuable, but since he hasn't been, I don't get paying him.

I'll go with "he looked better than he'd ever looked before". ;)
Why is that a surprise? We do not use two TE's in the passing game. Now it is even worse with both CD and Pickens.

We are a pass first team. When should we take out a WR to have 2 TE's go down the field?

I thought MM had a specific role in mind for him, and I was looking forward to the inclusion of a FB in the offense. I still believe it can be effective.

The extension was just after the Micah deal when MM was long gone and Jerry was feeling generous with his found money, so I really can’t guess what the plan is. It’s just he is almost never used on offense and it’s unclear to me where he fits. It’s not an indictment of the player.

I agree. Every year they recognize he should be used more and then they don't.

People got YouTube highlight Syndrome. Just because someone looks like a world beater in a four minute college highlight video thinks it translate to the NFL.
He looked like a giant at Baylor but blended in the NFL.
I hope he steps up and becomes what we hope he can be.

Let's see him do more, has to work on his blocking for sure, but otherwise so good so far
trigg looked pretty good. he can catch in tight spaces but really needs to improve his run blocking. might make a good fourth tight end. see how he does on specialteams in next two games that's where he will play the most in his rookie year.

I thought the people on here expecting him to contribute year 1 were being silly and the same old fanboys who every year stick their heads in the sand and expect every single player to be great right off the bat and tell us all the rookies and UDFAs who are going to win jobs and blah blah blah, when in fact very very few do well year 1.

BUT, I totally changed my opinion watching him last night. This kid looks like he just might be able to play as a receiving option in this league. I don't know if he will get the chance due to his blocking, but the way he used his size and his hands impressed me. I'm not going to pretend one preseason games stats mean anything and am not basing it on that, but my eyes told me that's a kid who just may have a role here...Complete 180 for me on him and I admit I wrote off his potential to play this year too quickly and based on nothing he did or didn't do. Let's see what he does the next couple of weeks. I just wish he could run down on KO and punt teams and I'd feel more confident about him making the roster

He was ok. Made the most of his opportunities. At the end of the day he makes this team based on his blocking and special teams. I saw nothing to suggest he will or should be on the opening day roster. Didn’t really such out of any of the tight ends though.

If they hadn't been dumb enough to spend a second on Schoon, he'd have been cut in first camp. I still don't understand why we gave Leupke that kind of contract.

I completely get that every team needs some "dirty work" players but I have never seen anything out of him that you shouldn't be able to find quite easily for min wage.
Ferg and Luepke got their extensions in the immediate aftermath of the Parsons trade.

Jerry went on and on about how much Micah Money we had laying around because we didn’t pay him $9.9m last year. So, he signed some checks real quick to change the news cycle.

Thought he played okay. Caught everything thrown his way except that one time he got blown up (looked as though he bobbled it before that though so probably should have caught that too) but nothing spectacular. He did look like he was spirited on blocks, probably because it's been a knock on him. He's not unseating Schoon for this so far. Would like to see strides during preseason and then let's talk.

He needs to improve and show he can play specials teams. A 3rd TE is basically useless if he can't play special teams.
