What is the deal with Opposing TE's?

For me, It's one of two reasons:
A) Weakness in the scheme
B) Jones, Church and Wilcox inability to cover

Whatever the answer is TE's killed the Dallas Defense down the stretch.

By the numbers.....

TB - Brate 5 73 yards 1 TD
DET - Ebron 8 93 yards
PHI - Ertz 13 139 yards 2 TD
GB - Cook 6 104 yards 1 TD
Rogers 1 34 yards 1 TD

I said before the game I was just as concerned about the TE's as I was the WR's. For some reason the Cowboys allow TE's to have big games. I always start TE's on my FF team when they play the Cowboys.

Not sure if we're still using Byron the way we used him as a rookie, but that was his forte as a rook.

Byron Jones.
Wait - didn't we draft Jones and move him to FS for the expressed purpose of covering elite TEs?

But Mr. "Zone Integrity" thinks a unthreatened patch of turf is more important than urgently sticking with the dude that's been killing us all game. Alrighty then...

At the beginning of the season I saw an interview with Byron Jones and he came across as the most arrogant person I've ever seen. I hope it's been knocked down several notches.

We need to switch him back to cornerback.

Byron Jones.

I'm not so sure. Personally, it looks like to me that Byron and Lee end up either out of position or trying to recover because somebody isn't where they are supposed to be. It's not to say that Byron is perfect as I still think his instincts are not quite there. But as we saw yesterday, Richard Rogers scored on a big TD with Lee defending him.

We really don't have a middle linebacker and that's a big part of covering TE's. The last year we were pretty good at covering TE's was in 2014 (11th vs. TE's according to FO.com). That year we had Ro McClain playing well at the MIKE. And you don't see Church covering TE's very much which I think presents more of a problem because it's one less option to effectively cover TE's.

Philly ranked #1 at covering TE's and they have two excellent safeties and Jordan Hicks is a top notch coverage MIKE.

For the past few years I've come to the conclusion that if you're strong at both safety positions, the MIKE, center and QB...you'll always be a tough team to beat. I have faith in Byron, but Church is too limited and we have not found a MIKE that we can have alongside Lee at the WILL. Perhaps Jaylon Smith can fill that role in 2017 and Kavon Frazier can replace Church.

I love Lee, but Lee with one on one outside coverage on an athletic TE down the field is a win for the opposing offense. They got the match up they wanted and exploited it for 6.

With the game on the line, and deep coverage sees a single player come into a zone and without additional conflict...you would think that a player should be able to make an adjustment and cover that player much more closely. As to tackled at reception, there were quite a few of 'business' decisions by the secondary yesterday. The ball can also be separated by a bunch of head hunters that also increase dropped passes. The tight ends had a size advantage and many in the secondary played around that fact...not being truly physical at the point.
