Im always optimistic that Dallas will turn things around and nothing has changed for me. I think JG is a bad coach but bad coaches can do good with people around them and learn from within. Thats happened before with plenty of HCs. Belichick was a horrible HC and then got guys like Weise, Mangini, Ryan and all of the sudden he became a good HC in NE? No it takes time.
Jerry has came out and said it will be Garretts choice on which coaches stay and go. So maybe Garrett needs to save himself from himself? Norv Turner is available. Theres no secret Norv still has the love for the game. He could be primed to make a comeback to Dallas and right a ship that needs a guide. The Offense isnt broke, it just has no rudder steering it to where they want to go. Callahan bless him he is a great OL coach but he is a lost cause as a OC. With rumors of a rift with Garrett i will gladly place a bet on Callahan being fired soon. Thats when Norv can come in and save Garretts job and have maybe one last shot as a HC. Where better to come in and prove that you can get it done with a franchise QB, Top3 WR in football, HOF TE, up and coming Rb and a OL thats ready to prime. I can see this as being the only change this coaching staff makes.
On the defensive side of the ball injuries killed this team. Yes there was lack of depth or was there? The depth was supposed to be guys like Hayden, Selvie, Crawford, Hollomon, Sims, Wilcox, Scandrick, Wilber. But with injuries to the starters your depth became your starters and street guys became your depth. So at the begining the season things looked great for Dallas. Spencer, Ratliff, Hatcher, Ware, Durant, Lee, Carter, Carr, Mo, Allen, Church were supposed to be your starting 11. But injuries tool Spencer, Ratliff, Durant, and Allen looked lost and Ware got that quad injury but plaed thru it but it was obvious it was there. So come week one half of your startng defense was injured and Allen looked lost. Depth wasnt a problem until the injuries piled up on Dallas quick. But by TC teams are set and pickings are thin.
Kiffin, can coach theres no secret about that. But you have to have the players. you have to have healthy players. I think they dropped the ball tho on letting vets sit out most team activities in the offseason. i think that led to alot of injuries. Guys sitting out and then trying to turn it on are prime for injuries. A different approach should be taken this yr. And i hope they push these vets harder then the rooks because its clear these guys need the push. Theyre the ones that are going to be on the field. They are the one who have something to prove. And ultimately they are the ones who are either going to win games or lose them.
Kiffin isnt without faults. The refusal to go to dime packages and leaving Carter to cover really fast wrs and scatbacks. Carter is very athletic but he's a Lber he shouldnt be out there in 4 wr sets. But i think Kiffin had more confidence in Carter then leaving BW out on the field or bringing in a 3rd safety. It wouldve probably been smarter to kepp Allen and have him come off the bench in these packages. But thats all hindsight.
Dallas is going to field pretty much the same team, except in the DL core. I think you see a major overhaul in this group. I can see 3 maybe 4 players being kept in this group. Selvie, Ware, Crawford and either Hatden or Wilson will probably be back. I would actually like to see Wynn back in a rotation with this core.
All in all i know this team has the players to compete. they just need to have everybody holding eachother accountable. From coaches to players they all need to hold themselves responsible. Heres to hoping Norv comes home.
